In practice mode you can get on going after power runs out so you can get some practice without having to worry too much about going of the track. In the other game modes it's game over when you run out of power.
And teaching you is something that may take quite a lot of time. There's over a thousand lines of actionscript behind this thing. But I would be willing to send you the source code if you think you can figure it out by yourself.
