It's honestly not that complex =D Each card costs x mana. Every turn, you can lay one land and it can make a mana for you. That lets you cast your spells. From there you play creatures, spells, etc with your mana and try to bash the enemy's face in.
There's a lot of more complex rules, but normally you can understand everything simply by reading the card.

Well he sure does look confused but then again it is Pokemon and I dont think I ever learned how to play the actual card game, I was always more into yu-gi-oh but that was like...5th grade or so when it was REALLY popular but still that looks right about how I played with a friend, being confused sometimes with just padding and no pants X3
