Comish - You're Not Going Anywhere
~~~
Part 1/2 of a comish for
Mallikeet of two of their characters, (both unnamed,) in an epic struggle... What looks like our anthro dude trying to bring the wyvern-phoenix hybrid down is actually our anthro dude trying to capture it to ride it. Notice he has no weapons? He means no harm, but the wyv doesn't seem to think so.
Oooh, yeah~ So freaking happy with how this turned out. Malli really gave me a challenge with this one, but I'm really proud of the result. 95% gradient shading with some very minimal soft gradients and highlights, lots and lots of detail on both's wings... Fun textures...
Dat nebula. I'm so freaking happy with that nebula. I swear the background took as long as if not longer than the chars. That night sky is about...twenty layers? Of different colours and hues and textures and blah.
Foliage around the cliff has caught fire...ashes and embers flying about...mountain creek coming down and flowing over the cliff-side doesn't help for anthro dude's grip and balance on the rocks, as the wyv is slowly pulling him toward the edge... Whom has got a hold of whom, now?
Go easy on me on that creek. I redid that a ton of times and think I finally got the texture/opacity down so it looks decent. XD I almost wasn't going to add it because I was worried it wouldn't turn out right, but Malli wanted it, and I pushed through!
I /really/ paid attention to the lighting hear, at least I hope it shows. Like all the reflective light and different angles and light sources, as well as trying to think about cast shadows. Ah, lighting, I'll tackle you eventually.
Yeah.
Commissions are still open~
Thanks Malli! Really hope ya like it!
Technically, canonically, he's actually helping it too as it went crazy, and he has to get control of it again. If he can manage to ride it, then that will show that it's calmed down...
But as to the basic question, I guess it's kinda like why do use cars when we have legs... hmm... I dunno that's not a very good analogy XD
I never really tire of the epic scale, not when it is done well, as this image is. The show of a power struggle is clearly evident though not seen toil the look or rope burns starting to form on the dragons hands, or the dust as it stirs up under the dragons feet either. The facial expression the shadow of strain on the one, and the shock and trying to escape on the feathered one is stands out just as much. I like the landscape to all the smoke and ash as fires raging across the land, and as some sun rays try to filter through it all with dark clouds in light skies.
One question does beg an answer though, why try to wrangle a creature with wing when you have wings of your own?
Thanks so much! Definitely one of the most epic - if not THE most epic - pieces I've done to date! I totally loooove how it turned out!
And to answer your question, in Malli's story, the green dragon is trying to rescue the critter. But I've been joking that he's just lazy. XD
