That's me with some friends (whose fursonas are completely made up because they aren't furries) doing one of my favourite things :)

O_o I hate random monster spawns, personally one of the things I try to avoid in the rare and usually short lived term I can have a regular D&D group together *sigh* most of my friends just don't understand the finer side of rpg gaming.
but damn you! you made me miss having a D&D group

I don't actually spawn randomly monster, I just threaten the player to do so when they get too much unfocused XD
Still I rather think that D&D is not the best game RP wise, it's great as "starter" because it has a lot of things in common with computer RPGs, and it is enjoyable even by more "seasoned" roleplayers; but there are far more rewarding games in the RPG industry, such as Nobilis :Q___
Sorry to hear that you are without a group right now, good luck in finding another (if you wish to)
^_^

*rolls around laughing* So awsome! The second worst thing ever invented in gaming, random monsters. What's the worst you may ask? Endless Path Syndrome.
You walk along the path, find some monsters standing there, kill them, collect the loot they conveniantly drug out to the road, walk down the path, come to the town (that is all positioned along this one road), sell/study/train/buy etc, rinse, repeat. No forks in the road, no plotline, no character interaction. Very one-dimensional. And yes, I know someone who actually was subjected to this in a real game.

Gahk! endless path syndrome is The Evil!
And I always objected to the "spoils", for this reason my players hate me because they are high level but with few magical objects (or other valuable stuff) XD
Also NPC opponents are waaaay better then pre-constucted monsters (IHMO), much more personable and a lot lett, "meet-hack-loot" (as Cesar said "veni, vidi vici"*)
*P.S.: Ceasar had been history first role player, as can be clearly seen by one of his most famous phrases "alea iacta est" (the dice is thrown)
