While I was up at FurCon 08, I bought Susan Rankin's new book "Shift Happens." ( http://www.doemain.com ) I also took an art class on basic anatomy, and I learned a few new line techniques.
This sketch is a study on Sue's style, as well as an attempt to implement thin and thick lines in all the right places. I was very happy with the way this turned out, and my wife had some good things to say about it too.
As with my Sabrina Online sketch, this is NOT a trace/copy. This is a sketch where I had the original pic in front of me, and I drew it free hand. If you compare mine to the original, you'll see some subtle differences.
I must give credit where credit is due: Character Sue Deer copyright Susan Rankin. Thank you, Sue, for creating such a wonderful and memorable set of characters.

Why thank you, what a nice compliment. I still have a long way to go with my art skills, but I'm happy to discover that I can eyeball an existing pic and sketch what I see.
Hopefully I will learn enough by looking at the works of others to gain my own style, and then maybe I can actually sketch what I see in my head...

Very good, the shading and the lines were done very well. Also I'm glad your using a picture as reference, that's how I train myself with an art style. First I use a picture as reference and memorize the shapes and the lines so that way the second time I use the art style I can do it based off of memory.
