Mystic Gardens, the Dragons Academy Nightlyre
Spring break has come to the Magical Academy Nightlyre and the students have left for holiday. However, had the students stayed they would have been witness to a wondrous transition on the grounds, facing the south side lay the the mystic gardens. The warmth and magic was in the air, making the plants and every other living thing come out of its winter hibernation.
It is in this period of time that the the night glory firedrakes awake from their burrows, trees both standing and fallen, and even from the very earth itself they come fourth. It is entering into the mating season for these creatures all during the time the fire flowers goes into full bloom. For these firedrakes, the bright colors, and magical golden pollen are are like bright living jewels to these creatures, that on any dragon would want to present his mate with.
A non-aggressive (unless provoked) these firedrakes change color through the whole of the seasons, (except winter) in spring when they emerge, both male and female are brown as the earth or the bark on the trees; this is why the males beautify themselves in the magic golden pollen, to make themselves presentable to any females. These dragons (the male) as as the seasons go on though change color, from all brown in the early spring, to green, or sun burst orange, or a mix of both, and back to brown, before the winter comes around once more; the females stay a shade of brown year round, but the tone of how dark to how tan they become changes in the same yearly cycle.
Now why do these drakes have their seasons with the fire flower, that is for multiple reasons; One is that when the males dress themselves in the pollen from flower to flower, the pollen is then spread from plant to plant. Another reason is to the dragons benefit, it is the pollen that release enzymes that cause the males to changes colors for the summer seasons in its greens and oranges.
So why is it the students are not here to witness such magic? Surely the horticulture class would get something from this experience? It is because of all the plants on the grounds, fire flower is the most allergenic of all the plants in their garden, when the pollen is in its raw in unpurified form; so only experienced personnel are allowed to handle the plants. The plant does not go without waste either, all parts can be used, the pollen when purified can be used to enhance a spell (most notably on the battlefield), the petals used either as a tea or have the oils extracted to use on sores, the leaves and the stems, are most prized, for its ability to be extracted to make as a cell regeneration potion for the elderly, an the taproots can be used as a substitute for ginger in cooking. Searches for other practical uses for this plant are still ongoing.
Forty and seven years this plant has been on the grounds of Academy Nightlyre and without incident; transplanted from the midlands of Midgurth and the dragons followed the scent of the flowers. These dragons were an unfortunate circumstance, the fact they are here, though midst being an invasive species, they are contained, and well looked after, as are all the creatures of Magical Academy Nightlyre.

Indeed, and I'd really enjoy these dragons flying around my home! ^^ Indeed I do!
Coincidentally, when there were times I had used library computers to create needed documents, and I had time to use if nobody was waiting, I searched for dragon art, and Nightlyre's personal site was one of them that really got me interested in drawing and dragon artwork, even if never achieving her level of skill. This was in 1999, 2000, I believe.

Of course, library computers back then were nothing compared to what is available now, and I didn't know anything...I just clicked links. I really didn't understand what the internet was save for mass data storage. I didn't go to the library much, so this kind of faded from memory until now.
I do not know how far Nightlyre art work goes back, but I know that I am making these color pages from her lineart as a series, all focusing around a magical Academy in her name, I have done 2 so far, this one and the Magical Academy Nightlyre. You may have known of internet back in 1999 and 2000 and I am sure back then it was dial-up at the libraries. I did not know of internet till highschool in 2003 as I was home-schooled before hand and had no reason for the net in those times. I did not start using the net till 05 when taking a semester in Website design, have not really stopped then and did not pick up using the net daily till I got a used labtop in 2009, have not stopped since..
An you are essentially correct as computers are really nothing more than mass data storage devices, it is how we use them collectively that makes the difference. As is computers at this point in time do not think independently (loath the day they do) so what you say about them, is a good enough generalization.

I think it was then, because I'm sure it was around the Y2K thing. You do quite well with these!
Ah, yes...the AOL screeching...it was awful. XD
Yes, in my day there was no "social media" or FaceBook or any of that, it was just for data. Though I have seen an old IBM PS/2 commercial with the capacity for teleconferencing. It was interesting, seeing an ad I remember for that.
