The fake jaw and nose makes it look more primitive, like an ape, but with teeth more like a shark's or some reptile. The idea behind my ghouls is that they are humans who had part of their souls ripped out by a powerful spell. Namely the part that makes them human. So now they are driven by basic instincts, in particular hunger, and have an animal-like cunning about them. Since they lack the vitality of life, they are in a state of semi-decay. Not rotting at the same speed a zombie would, but still slowly falling apart and purtifieing. The flesh of the living gives them strength and lets them stop their decay for a time, but they always hunger for more.
