This one is a big 'thank you' for Carlito. It was his story that brought up this concept so I decided to thank him by having some of his characters jump start this story!
If you're not familiar with what I'm talking about, read Carlito's "Walk on the Wild Side." It informs this one.

“So I don’t know what to do.” Rene sighed one day to a sympathetic ear. “I mean, this seems like such a great opportunity for me and Nicole to spend some time together…on the other hand I don’t know how she’ll react when I tell her that it was Nicole—Blackclaw, that is—who set this up for me. PLUS I don’t know a thing about skiing. What do you think Neve?”
“You want to know what I think, chica?” Neve gave him a thin smirk as she glanced over the top of her sunglasses. “I think mebe you should pay attention to the match before Skylar turns you into a pancake!”
“Huh?” Rene looked up from his place in the center of the ring to see a silver gleam bearing down on him like the bird of prey that she was. “YIKES!” He leapt away just before her talons struck the ground where he had been standing.
The rest of his team were rolling their eyes. “Idiot.” Sam groaned. “Can’t keep his head on straight most of the time as it is…I should’ve been the one to face Skylar.”
“You just want to see which one of you is the best fighter in the Sophomore class.” Romano razzed. “Talk about ego!” Sam shrugged not the least bit abashed.
“Hey, what’s wrong with wanting a challenge?”
“That’s not nice.” Rahne chided her, the big lapras girl turning to regard Sam. “Zachary fought very well, I thought.”
“Please. I handed his head to him. Heads.” Sam corrected herself as she crossed her arms. “I should’ve faced Skylar. I’ve got sharp claws to match her metal hide, I’ve got wings to counter hers, I’ve got…”
“…an ego the size of Sinnoh.” Romano quipped, earning herself a death glare from the scyther gal.
Meanwhile, as the sycther and gligar bickered, Rene was darting this way and that to avoid getting skewered by Skylar.
“Gonna getcha!” The skarmory grinned as a smile crinkled her beak, diving low to grab him.
Sweat glistened on Rene’s brow, his breath coming in gasps as he continued to run. “Not…like you want to!” He suddenly stopped short and leapt up. Rene caught a quick glance of surprise on Skylar’s face as she sailed under him. Rene landed on her back, wrapping his arms around her neck and clinging on for dear life.
“HEY!” Skylar protested. “Oh if THAT’S how you want to do it—!” She grinned as she gained altitude, in spite of the added weight on her back.
Rene gulped as he watched the ground retreat out from under him and clung to Skylar’s neck even harder. “This is NOT going the way I expected!”
“That’s life boyo.” Skylar grinned. “Now are you gonna give up or are you gonna see just how high—and how fast!—I can go?”
“No thanks.” Rene craned his head back and spat a burst of Flamethrower over his shoulder, singing Skylar’s tail. “Let’s not forget who has the type advantage here.”
Skylar yelped. “Hey! I use that to open kegs!”
“And I’m just getting warmed up.” Rene threatened, steam snorting out through his nostrils. “Let’s see who calls it quits first!”
“Never get into a game of chicken with me foxy!” Skylar whooped as she twirled around in midair, trying to toss Rene off. He spat out a couple more bursts of flame, one of which winged the tip of her wing. Then he decided to apply some heat in a more direct manner and used Flamethrower right on Skylar’s unprotected back.
Skylar felt her eyes widen at the sudden burst of heat on her back. “YEOOOWCH! That’s IT!” With that she flapped her wings and bolted forward at maximum speed. Rene shut his eyes as they watered at the extreme speed Skylar was flying, his tails were billowing behind him like a banner and his ears whipped back. Then with a gut-wrenching motion, she came to a complete halt.
The stop was so sudden that Rene had no way to prepare for it. He lurched forward and flipped over. Rene managed to maintain his hold around Skylar’s neck as she hovered in midair, but now he was dangling down below her, instead of riding on top of her.
Rene gulped as he looked down. His feet—not to mention the rest of him—dangled quite a long way from the ground below. He looked up and saw Skylar grinning at him, albeit upside down.
“So…you were saying about you and Nicole Zuna?” Skylar said innocently, as if she’d forgotten they were in the middle of a match. “Just ask her to go skiing with you. If she’s uncomfortable accepting a favor from Blackclaw then just say its Nikki’s way of paying off a debt. I doubt Nicole will turn down a chance to go rolling around in the snow with you.” Skylar snickered as Rene’s face heated.
“You think so?”
“Know so.” She nodded as her beak curled upwards at the corners. “Now, since that’s settled I believe we were in the middle of a battle?” The vulpix paled at the look on Skylar’s face. It did not bode well for him.
He was right. The skarmory reached down with her sharp metal claws and started tickling Rene’s exposed underarms. “H-hey! Quit it!” He tittered. Buoyed, Skylar stepped up her efforts until the small vulpix was kicking his legs and giggling uncontrollably. He felt his grip loosen. “N-noooo!” Rene squeaked as he finally let go and started his fall to the ground.
“And THAT’S for my tail!” Skylar shouted after him as he fell. Everyone groundside watched his fall, wincing when he hit the mat with a loud THWAP!
“Dude…good thing his tails are so fluffy.” Dominic observed. “They act like natural cushioning.”
“Chica could use some of that for his brains.” Neve sighed.
