Trying to see just how fast I can knock out coloring I like.
Somehow I keep imagining the mimic being voiced by Cab Calloway. "Gonna do the best I can." Any moment now they're gonna start dancing The Rubber Arms and The Squash And Stretch, and skeletons and ghosts will show up for no apparent reason.

Most early to mid 30s non-Popeye and old-school D&D; the protagonist is in a graveyard/haunted house/underground! Why are they in a graveyard/haunted house/underground? It's not important. Maybe they're off to seek their fortune, running away from home, running away from the law. At any rate, monsters pop out for no real reason.
Mimics: How D&D lets you know that the DM hates you.
... Imagine the chaos that a demented wizard could evoke by crossing a mimic with a cockatrice.
This picture makes me want to break out the old Crown Royal bag-o-dice and a couple packages of seriously detrimental snack food for a proper all-night campaign session - if only the local players weren't all 14-17 years old. I miss the good old days.

I find your D&D work (and ShadowRun) work to be amazing and so very detailed in the attire, and expressions and movements of the characters. I really enjoy that your work does include details but isn't crazy with cross hatching and the need to put everything into the picture. I've been playing a lot of MoP recently and it has been reminding me of the work that you did a while back with samurai ogres... Awesome stuff. Didn't you do some Temple Dogs/Imperial Lions as well?
Mimics, the reason why "Poke it with a sharp stick" needs to be the first response to finding a treasure chest in any dungeon.
Like the picture, the theif/rogue's expression is great and I like all the tools laid out in front. Detail on the bottom of the shoes also is a nice touch.

When properly done, mimics are awesome. Its like Call of Chtulhu, you need a good build up and hint about what is wrong with the dungeon. Its not until the group is in really deep that they realize the place is infested with them and they have to have a running fight just to escape with their lives.
