Attract Mode
This is a gift for
Zelandeth, somewhat in observance of the one-year anniversary of our civil partnership which we celebrated yesterday.
Through video game adaptations of classic tables, Zelandeth has lately gotten me a lot more interested in pinball than I used to be. We've shared a good few laughs and indignant squawks playing Pinball Arcade on our smart phones, and developed a greater appreciation for the history of the game. I was never into pinball (or arcade video games for that matter) very much when I was younger, since even then I perceived how they could be complete black holes for one's pocket change. Being able to play digital versions without needing an endless supply of quarters, however, has let me explore it more.
So pictured here, my favourite black dragon is in some appropriately dimly-lit arcade, hunched over one of our favourite tables, Medieval Madness, making SERIOUS PINBALL FACE. It's a delightfully silly and insane table, and we had the chance during a recent visit to the US to actually play the real thing. I snapped a photo of Zel while he was playing, and used it for reference here.
The title, 'Attract Mode,' is a play on words; it's what they call the mode that pinball tables go into when they're powered up in an arcade but not being played at the moment. It'll involve flashing lights and sounds generally by way of a demonstration to attract players. I figured it was appropriate here, since I imagine that a Zeldragon concentrating on a pinball game would probably make a number of cute inadvertent buttwiggles and tailflicks.

Thanks for drawing that, definitely seems appropriate given how much of a time sink that game has been in recent months!
Surprised the tail hasn't managed to cause any mischief yet, either by knocking something over or tripping me over (or both). Certainly seem to have captured the all absorbing tunnel vision which tends to happen when concentrating on something like that.
Sure there would also be a good deal of mane floofing, startled squawks of surprise (which do seem to have become somewhat of a trademark) and probably no shortage of muttered profanities to the pinball gods if my usual performance is anything to go by.
"Oh thank you Merlin...Thank you very much..."

Sounds like a usual game of pinball to me, then! ^^ I think you and I are as bad as each other with the strangled squawks, usually when the ball vanishes right between the flippers after bouncing off something at Mach Lots.
And yes, the muttered profanities when Merlin activates the Trolls for us, too...
Very glad that you like it! <3

Awww - first off, congratulations on 1 year!! ^_^ *hugs tight* And what a wonderful and classic way to enjoy games and arcades. I really like the lighting work you've done on this piece. And since I can't resist a paw related comment - that front left pinball machine leg has the BEST view. :3
