OMG, MY EYES, my eyes, they burrrrnnn...
10 x 13 color pencil
When I first drew the graphite concept piece, I didn't think I'd have the nerve to actually do it in color, because it would take forever. Well I finally attacked it, doing little bits at a time so it didn't seem so bad. Got a bit frisky with the detail, definitely more than I originally planned. She is going to get still more shading but not till the BG is done.
Now I gotta do the back ground. It won't be quit as detailed or colorful but will be more technical as I will be doing some linear perspective and playing with lighting.
I shot this with a camera so it is somewhat blurry and some of the shading is reflecting light. I won't post this again till it is complete and professionally scanned.
I definitely made mistakes and overworked some areas and wish I had some do overs.
****Critique welcome! Let me know if you see something I missed or that could be improved upon, I am rather blind to the whole thing by now.****

Holy mother of... your details are beautiful. I'd love to see this with a background, I think it would complete the piece, the white space is a bit overpowering.
HOWEVER, the image itself is beautiful and the work you put into it shows so I understand you needing to stop before a background.

This is a really beautiful work in progress and it leaves me anxious to see what it looks like in the end. As you usually do, your colors seem accurate (though the whole picture seems slightly warm, paper included, so I'm assuming that's a screen color error). Her anatomy is easily believable and her pose is very dynamic, it really pulls through to give her a powerful presents. Good facial expression that is unique to your style and it also helps with her powerful stance. I also think you pulled off the angle of her head well, which can be quite difficult to make believable and real. Good sense of motion with her fur, hair, and fabric too.
There are a couple of things that I do notice to be odd in her anatomy. First thing that stuck out to me was her left/sword hand, which I noticed pretty quickly. The fingers seems to be a bit short, in that I mean that the distance between the knuckles and the first bend in all the fingers are too short. That and the first bend in all the fingers line up in a straight line, where they should make a slight arching line to show the size difference between the fingers; 'cause right now, the pinky looks like the same size in length as the rest of the fingers on her sword hand. There is also the width of her waist, which looks fine in shape, but looks just slightly too small to be able to hold up her wider and muscular torso (which you did a great job on, by the way).
All in all though, this a very strong peice so far, it really shows the effort that your putting into it; and I must say that I'm really impressed that it's all done in color pencil. Keep up the fantastic work my friend.

Thank you for the input! Yes, the hand I have the most issues with and I will see what I can do with it. I was also wondering about the waist, that's one reason why I ask for critique as I get blind to my work and need things pointed out. If I put the piece away for a couple weeks then look at it, I can usually pick up on a lot of problems but I'm usually not that patient. :)
I learned a lot doing this piece as I do with most others and the critique I get is also one of my greatest learning tools.
Thanks again!

Hey, no problem, I enjoy critiquing from time to time. I couldn't help saying anything, cause like I said, this is a really nice drawing, as a whole.
But yeah, if you need advice, or critique with a future picture or something, I'd be more than willing to give my two cents. I mean, im by far no professional artist; but as a student artist, I know all too well how helpful it can be to receive advice from another artistic eye.
You wouldn't be going to MFF this year by any chance, would you?

I thought about art school after HS(long, long ago) but things went a different direction. Started drawing again, basically from scratch 3 years ago and I just learn as I go.
I'm always happy to get critique as I will invariably get blind to my work. That is why I put up so many WIPs, to get help seeing things I don't notice till to late. I've added to her waist already and it does look better. I will be able to work on it some more once I get some fixitive on it.
Yes. This will be my 4th year in a row for MFF. :)

Well, life can take some crazy unexpected turns sometimes, thats what keeps life interesting, right? I read up on your history you give us on FA, and I most say that you have quite the time gap in your art history. After reading about that, I guess I should give you a very belated "welcome back" to the art world *chuckles*, I'm glad to see that your taking your art interest for another spin. And by looking at you portfolio here on FA, your taking your come back by storm, cause your color skill is really impressive.
And your a regular at MFF? Well heck, I've got to meet up with you this year; you seem like someone who would be interesting to talk with. I live about 30 min from MFF, so I've been going since 2010. Sadly, it's the only one I can afford. If your ever near the MFF location outside of the the actual convention, you should give me a jingle through notes or something; it would be cool getting to meet another fur artist.

Yes, her skirt is close to the hue of the throne but there are blue highlights that didn't come out in the camera shot. my camera doesn't like some blues.
There isa snippet of a story that goes with her. May be a short story or perhaps a deluxe bio. I'll post it when this piece is completed.

cameras or scanners, they are evil! I recently found out that a small pull-through scanner meant for businesspeople to scan in a contract is the best for pencil shaded and color pencil pictures I ever had... now I need a flatbed piece so I can scan in stuff that won't fit that lil' device. *dies*
I'm looking forward to it! ^^

I MADE EYE candy! XD
I love doing texture, especially in white fur and I plan on doing this same character in white accept for her spots and eyes. I am working on a short story to go along with her. She is unknowingly possessed by a daemon, the protecting spirit of the remote valley kingdom.
