These pictures were taken by me with my old Pentax camera.
This was the Ralph Bakshi studio on Gilmore Street in the heart of Van Nuys, where we made the second season of Mighty Mouse, The Butter Battle Book, Tattertown, and a few other odds and ends.
Top row pictures show the building itself, Eddie Fitzgerald, and Jeff Pidgeon.
Bottom row pictures show Rich Moore, Bob Revell, Kent Butterworth, and a picture of Tom Minton, Jim Reardon and myself, using the timer on my camera.
We were in this building for almost two years and had a lot of wacky adventures. Let's raise a glass for the good old days...

oh wow... not often we see behind-the-scenes for these shows a lot of us grew up with... seems like the team worked in what seems to be a motel, kinda reminds me of Termite Terrace, where the older animation veterans worked in.
mind if I show this to some of my old animation teachers?

Mighty Mouse, The Butter Battle Book, Tattertown! so many things from my youth! and Cool World too! I almost went to the Joe Kubert School and they told me a lot of graduates worked on that film! very cool pictures, Mr. Kazelah! I often thought Cool World was like a longer, darker version of Tattertown. what with Nails the spider being in both and I went in not knowing Holly was the Villain, sort of like Muffet.
We were pitching Tattertown for a while before Nickelodeon bought the pilot. The earlier development stuff we did was darker and grittier, and it was originally called "Junktown" which I though sounded better, but Nick probably thought that had drug connotations. In a way, Cool World was more like what we originally thought Tattertown would be like. Holly was definitely the villain of Cool World.
I did later see a lot of Ralph's oil paintings that looked very dark and like Tattertown. :) I was actually once pulled into a survey at the Mall and shown the coming attraction to Cool World and the tagline "Holly Would if she could", I don't know why she didn't register as the villain to me before I saw it, but I was pleasantly surprised! :)
Wow! really you worked with that legend of the animation!? i bet it has to be such an awesome experience.
I had the luck of watch Backshi´s new version of "Mighty Mouse" back then, and i loved it, it was different and exciting, with good, clever humor and animation, you guys did a great job with it.
By the way i heard that also John Kricfalusi worked with Backshi in this show too and the style was very influential on him for what a few years later was his masterpiece know as "The Ren & Stimpy Show" Did you meet him and exchanged ideas around that place back then too?

John worked on the first season of Mighty Mouse when we were in another building on Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. I'd known John for a few years before that. There'd be get togethers at his place every week it seemed. On those nights Jerry Beck would sometimes bring 16mm cartoons. Ralph used to show up sometimes too. Fun times. I still see John every now and then, and once in a while I talk to Ralph on the phone.
Most of you seem rather unaffected by the 80's, perhaps it's because I can't see the colours ;) I mean the fashion and style wouldn't be out of place now.
