Zuranians are religious zealots to an insane degree. Everything they do in their society has to have a proper ritual to go with it or horrible things may happen (in their minds). Women run the show in their society and are bigger and slightly more aggressive than then the men. And only women can commune with the goddess cause girl power.

So there you see now why they are so fiercely protective of Zuraki. They literally believe that’s their children that died, reborn, and walking among them. The Zuraki however, are just delighted to get a warm house and a bunch of attention.
