Yeah I believe he's not dead, something's coming back from his past to haunt him. Old boyfriend, old job he tried to escape from but they can't let the wolf go too valuable we'll make you come back to us, we have something you want. Though I'm not sure if he has enhanced smell when not in wolf form that he might of picked this up, though emotions can cloud that too.
I'm with you on that one. Looking at the comic page where he got into the cab... that driver's expression and words just kinda rung the whole "holy fuck, he's gonna do something" bell. He just seemed exceptionally suspicious, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was all an elaborate plan to crush Grant's spirits in an attempt to get him. Ya know, destroy him emotionally, but then turn around and use the boyfriend as a captive to pull at Grant's heart strings and manipulate him into doing what they want. I mean, did he ever really go visit the scene of the accident? We don't know, so it's possible he heard about it, and never went there to have a scent trail to follow, so they could've spirited the boyfriend away. And even if he'd gone, they could've posed the argument of "dead bodies still leave a scent trail, we're just taking him to the hospital/morgue." Really, it's a very effective manipulation.
And as a side note of something I just noticed... the priest there looks almost exactly like the suspicious cab driver.
...And I'm starting to sound like a conspiracy nut. :P Could just be artistic similarities and not really be the same guy. I just wouldn't be surprised if they were and he's in on it.

I must point out a few things.
One the man in the taxi cab appeared earlier in the comic when the little girl was trapped at the carnival and grant wolf formed a bit to brake the padlock off. As you'll recall the same individual we saw in the car recently was also seen there picking up the broken pad lock.
Two Grant was an Orphan to begin with, It is possible that his birth parents or more likely his creators were running an experiment to see how the werewolf growing up in a human society would react and turn out.
Three another possibility is that the people who killed His birth parents, have finally tracked down the child that the birth parents had, He was able to remain in obscurity because his transformations didn't really manifest in full force until about the time of puberty. at which point he was adopted. As his true nature began to manifest itself the need for human flesh manifested itself, but rather than slaughtering he found a willing subject and discovered he only needed to taste of flesh to be sated then he met grant and the rest is history

Well something like that can easily be waved or falsified by someone with enough power or authority. If they found a body that would look identical enough to him and just mangle it up so you recognize only a few things (clothing, jewelry.. so on) you can fool someone just enough to believe it's them, especially in a grieving state.
Actually I need to correct some of my previous statements, Grant has to siblings that we know of who presumed him dead for 25 years Their names are Vi and Syl Short I think for Violet and Sylvia, they appear to be a tag team and the man in the glasses is either in cahoots with them or one of their number, If you'll recall the fair they were going to eat the little girl that night but are settling for hobo instead. The name they know him by is Rayel, As for the body mangling and substitution, there is the little matter of DNA to consider, this is of course only if they bothered to check which is unlikely due to the cost.
Any who, my thoughts on the situation are the Vi and Syl decided to take revenge for their meal being taken, as werewolves who consume human flesh it is no stretch for them to take what Grant or Rayel values most in a kind of sick twisted retaliation. the question that's really bothering me is what transpired to cause the crash? Was it intentional? or maybe Randy resisting once he perceived something was out of place? was it the coincidence of folly a kind of convenient distraction for grant while his dearly beloved was whisked away some where else? I doubt this very much after all Randy had a funeral held for himself, the parents would of had to identify the body and until we recieve more information it is really nothing more than wishful thinking to presume that Randy is still some how alive.

True, yeah I went back and was wondering about those two and their involvement, who they work for, or if they're the leaders and just have minions (humans) so many questions he he. I'm not sure they're siblings unless you're considering a pact sibling thing, that he was part of this group and got disgusted with what they were doing.
Yeah I would think the parents would want to make sure, I just found it weird that if he was on the run why have a drivers license with his real information (well what information we think is true). I can't recall If he had a job that he needed it, or it's just for looks; just think he might of put contacts in or falsified tell-tale info that might lead people to figure out who he is.

Grant or Rayel has no need for a falsified ID because Grant Grew up in an Orphanage, ergo the fact that Vi and Syl Recognized him as Rayel the presumed dead of 25 years implies that they are some how related or at the very least from similar backgrounds before Rayel went missing, For all we know he might have been growing up with these two gotten lost and then wound up in an orphanage. Rayel cannot be older than 26 or 27, because of this 28-29 at the oldest, also it implies that he was never old enough to have any idea of his relitives, further more in the comic Grant doesn't even know quite what he is until after being adopted and then leaving that home to live on his own as an adult. Thus there is no secondary secret side or past that he is running from of his own volition. Also Grant works as a telemarketer.

Have you read this comic from begining to it's current pages?
If not I suggest that you do that it will clear up a lot of misconceptions.

Which is why I figured it was an allegory for rough-beast-man sex. He couldn't get it, didn't know what he needed, figured it was blood and death. When he realized he was gay, it was an outlet that let him explore and sate his hunger. In the beginning of the comic he is having hookup sex in the gym where he works out, but he still seems predatory, angry. When he meets Randy, he has an outlet for the 'beast' in him.
This is why I figure he's going to go off the deep end, have sex that's riskier and riskier, maybe even let himself go and kill somebody. But then, we saw two female werewolves and they were about to eat that child, weren't they?

yea and All i can guess as if things progress like we might think and he meets up with them, the Silver will come off or ripped off by him, and the Beast that was locked away will be released and will be in full effect..ever see DBZ and Gohan was able to tap into his hidden power....yea I see something like that going on!
You know, somehow seeing this page and the funeral scene, while still bringing back the sadness, and despite still being a horrible situation for Grant, really put me a bit more at ease with the whole situation. Like it'll be easier for me to continue on with reading this and just plain going through with my life without having to think back on this moment.
Ok.. this kind of caught me off guard - I hadn't seen the last few pages... so I went back and read the entire thing over.
And the cab driver scene two pages ago along with the woman four pages ago pretty much sets us up for some kind of nefarious action.
One thing though - are we *sure* that was Randy? We've not seen any actual body.
Anyway, excellent work as always. Points for taking a risk with your characters like this.
I also love that your werewolf character isn't all slim and super muscular. I hate that stereotype. :)
I mean, when you live in the city, it's hard to keep the pounds off... so many sheep.. I mean.. oh - look at the sights! :)

As stated on deviantArt, I'm really hoping that Randy isn't dead, for Grant's sake. The whole thing with the taxi driver seemed really shady. It seems to me, or at least these are my hopes for the better shining through in these thoughts, that those two other people who were at the fair that night might have taken Randy and hid him somewhere and maybe planted a sorta look alike in his place. (I saw it once on NCIS. They found a guy who looked almost identical and killed the other real guy...... Uuuuhhh, scratch that...)
...
unless Randy is still alive and either a) being held hostage or held as someone's lunch - considering Grant took those girl's " meal "
or Randy is being converted and conditioned to not only har Grant, but to attack and attempt to destroy him
Hmmm can't wait to see what's next.

um... yeah... You try Losing the love of your life and see how you're doing a few weeks after the fact. I'm not trying to bite your head off here by the way. I'm just pointing out that, Grants reactions are very realistic for what appears to have transpired. Also I know people who have been in Grants place and let me tell you they're never the same after the fact They are forever changed And depression and being down to downright moody is a pretty common side effect. Also poor sleep insomnia, Shelf guilt tripping and self blame, If only I'd done something different. etc...

This seems to be my thoughts...
Why Randy? Why? Why must the black dude die first?
WHY?!!!
The soundtrack on the link is also a tribute to
evotrex. I may not know him personally, but RIP.

Made so comments above but any way just gotta say, I'm waiting on more information before I make my final call, also grow his hair out any longer and he might start looking like a bearded Severus Snape, except bulkier in build, and with more piercings.
I'll be waiting to see more.

Okay, I'd been following your comic on DA since I was fresh out of highschool, then found you here on FA.
Grant and Randy's story (for what there had been at the time) had always stuck to a certain corner of my heart.
I wanted to come back and catch up, in reading the carnival and just after.
I cannot explain how suddenly my heart broke and sank.
My lip began to quiver and I burst out into tears.

I know the feeling, Berserker. This tore my heart out too. (Big hugs to you Captain GerBear if you were going through some loss or pain when you got to this point). It's like when they killed off Henry on the MASH tv series. It was necessary to the story and it showed there is always some pain.) Poor Grant.
Reading/watching the previous page gave me this kind of sinking feeling of sadness and it nearly faded. I liked the music, and music really hits me hard emotionally, but there were moments where I felt the words were distracting. THIS was a sob bomb a couple seconds in, funerals didn't used to bother me until after my dad's several years ago when I was still in high school. Thinking now, I'm sure if I come back to the previous page after finishing out this story arc it will make me bawl too...
