Well, construct2 is kinda like game maker, a 2D engine that allows you make 2D games without knowledge of any coding. You are free to try out the free version and see for yourself. I use it aswell with a personal license for professional work .
It has by now many amazing features, including templates to start with and very friendly community.
The creator of the game engine, Ashley makes free updates with new features and bug fixes almoust every week.
In my honest opinion, its the greatest opportunity for artist to be able make theyr own games and even publish them commercialy :)
