Post 1967 when the over 5.0L class (of which the Ford MKIV was made for) was dropped, ford dropped their racing programs, several MKIIs being sold to JW Gulf racing...and were more successful than their steads as factory cars. 1969 would be the last time Ford would win Le Mans.
