I painted a frame from my webcomic. This is watercolor and inkpen.
Our boy in the brig is Warrant Officer Jack Johnson Jr. He ran his mouth...got in a bar fight with the boar.
EDIT: I did a little bit of photoshopping on the shadows of the bars on the back of the cell. I justed copied some texture into them. Originally, for a reason that could only be dumbness, I masked the the shadows of the bars while painting and texturing the background. I should have done a contiguous background then masked off eveything but the bars and then done a dark wash. By cloning some texture into the area of the bars, I've sort of simulated that now. Therefore, my skill isn't all that awesome. Still, live and learn.

It's your use of layering. That's it. That's what gives your paintings so much depth and richness.
Your eye for color and your skill with it are awesome.
I see those little details there, trying to be subtle enough to not distract, but clear enough to add emphasis. Nice touch.
You have to show me how you do it. I really do want to learn to use watercolors like that.

You know, I still can't decide who's my favorite character of yours: I mean, sure, Mulefoot is great, I do like him loads, but... J.J. or Rita? I cannot choose! X3
I adore how he's leaning out of the panel, just to let you know. I think it's the balance of this composition that gets me. ^_^

I have to say I found the comparison is interesting. It helps that this image is larger, and it makes it clear that JJ here ... wondering. Just what he's wondering is another matter, but I don't think he's functioning in the there and then (can't really say 'here and now for a flashback, can I?).

And of course it's a great excuse to reread the current story, in the questionable case anyone needs an excuse.

Thank you!
Though truthfully I messed up the background on this one.
For the life of me I don't k now why I masked off the area where the shadows of the bars would be. That was just silly. I should have down the background as a speckled gradient then just done a dark wash for the shadow of the bars.
