Continuing on with the series, I decided to introduce the R-Force's sultry snow-leopard, Vera Blade a.k.a. "Mirage." These sketches are a lot better to show off the characters than the full-color pics I started with (Lana and Terarra) since these don't require the time it takes to do all that coloring and such. Now, on to her profile:
You'll notice that there's a lot of airy design with her shocksuit's outer layer. It's not uncommon for female fighters to use the art of distraction, so Vera takes a note from using not only the blatantly obvious but also the waving tassels of her outfit to draw her opponent's eyes away from her lethal fists and feet (much like the tassels on Chinese swords; all it takes is a matter of split-seconds). It really fits her codename, eh?
As for Vera's own eyes, they're among the sharpest on the team, cementing her as the sniper of the group. I couldn't find any place to draw her sniper rifle but since I haven't figured out its design I guess that's okay. Her other weapon, as you can see, is a rapier of a design I'm still working on as well. It's kinda interesting how her bloodline hails from the Raikonian equivalent of China, yet she was raised in a nunnery and taught Western fencing in addition to Tai Xi fighting.

Oh, my Gu... Sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssnow leopard!! I love snow leopards!!!
I had a feeling this was by you when I spotted it as I was preparing to log in a minute ago. I also thought that this would be another Ancient Sages character from first glance (ahem, that's a loincloth she's wearing) but it appears that she'll be in the R-Force setting! Again, the profile is just a great, big knockout! It seems to dwarf what I think I can do, but like Chris Martin says, "If you never try, you'll never know."
I also can't believe you use martial arts as an inspirational source, too. It forwards what you said about inspiration coming from anywhere, especially your education.
The best furry writers in the US, and maybe the world, are bound to be Nick Hardin and Professor Rigel (that's my pen name for my author career; it has a wonderful "Dr. Seuss" ring to it! :D).
Hmm. I wonder if I could take a novel-writing course as an elective in college. But, even if I could, I don't know how it'll affect my workload. I can't simply make "Lightning Before Daybreak" the novel I'll write for that course because I already have one chapter of it done. So, either I restart the novel for the course, or I can write another novel I have in mind, "Mansur and Lateefa," which is merely unwritten.
By the way, I'm faving this!

Heh heh, I had a feeling you might like her after catching your shout-out pic ^_^ Perfect timing, eh?
Martial arts is indeed a chief inspiration (wuxia fans unite!), and it sounds like Chris Martin's got some great advice there.
There may be some creative writing electives you could try in college. They're great ways to practice and gain experience and tips.
(speaking of Ancient Sages, I hope to introduce a new one very soon)
