Wraith Chimera Nephilidus Wing Ref color
For those following me, I'm sure you're sick of seeing this, by now, but it's finished: A completed and colored image of Wraith Chimera Nephilidus, and a reference of sorts.
The thing with Wraith's wings is that they are essentially long, heavy arms with hands on them, but in all the wrong proportions, since they're wings. All of his flight surfaces, including the tailfins, have no permanent membranes, unlike other draconid beings (Wraith is NOT a dragon, he is a CHIMERA. He only appears draconid).
Instead, the wing membranes are formed on command by a dense concentration of silk spinnerets arranged to span the appropriate areas. Without permanent wing membranes, each wing has drastically increased mobility and dramatically improved viability as weapons.
Each wing is positioned differently to give a better idea of their range of motion, and only the left forewing is shown with a silk membrane, and it is an example of a full span. As you can see, the membrane does not reach all the way back to the body. It can only span between points where the limbs can touch each other.

The silk is actually based on spider silk, but the compound and spinnerets are based on Caerostris Darwini , or the Darwin's Bark spider. C. Darwini has a silk that is more than twice the strength of any other spider in existence, and is a great many times stronger than steel by weight, and five times stronger than kelvar by weight. Per thread diameter, however, the silk is similar to steel in tensile strength, but much tougher and much more flexible, and a tiny fraction of the weight.
Wraith's silk was re-engineered to have a bit less flex, but almost twice the strength of the aforementioned Bark Spider.
The more you know. *PSA chime*
