It's all well and good for me to make needle felt dolls and plushes, but if I want them to be displayed in a gallery they have to be "gallery ready"; which just means I have to make sure they have a base.
So I cannibalized an older sculpture from last year, took its base and put Gaf on it. Still didn't look right.
So I made Gaf a pillow to sit on, and that looked much better but it was still missing something.
So I made Gaf a little book to read and suddenly the whole scene was pulled together.
Altogether we have Gaframor the needle felt dragoness doll. She has a wire armature skeleton with poly-fill stuffing in her gut to give her some stability. Her face is set with glass eyes and is made from polymer clay as are her feet; both her feet and her face have been sealed with Mod Podge.
Much thanks to ~SnowFox102 for advice on how to make the wings!
Gaf's base is some sort of heartwood... I can't even remember what it was called - it was some waste from school last year that the woodshop guy gave me. It has been primed and coated in a little varnish (but not much.) I then glued some of that craft moss on there.
Her pillow is made from some scraps of hand-dyed fabric. I hand sewed it and filled it with poly-fill and added a little tassel on one corner.
Her book is real! It has real pages (although only two are filled.) Real paper bound in leather.
