Just a little work in progress of a miniature project I've been working on.
The Raven Guard have always been a favorite Space Marine Chapter of mine, and in the 4th edition codex space marines, there was an option to take 'Shrike's wing' A squad of veterans equiped with lightning claws and jump packs. Well I'm finally getting around to it with the current codex rules and I'll say this.... it's an expensive unit... For Shadow Captain Shrike, A Chaplain with Jump Pack (for extra hitty goodness) and the unit of vanguard veterans with jump packs, lightning claws and melta bombs, it comes out to be around 980 points for that alone.
ridiculous I know, but I'm doing this for a cool unit, not something I'd always put down in a game :)

I personally prefer Assault Terminators due to their higher survivability and weapon loadout (which comes cheaper than vanguards with similar equipment).
The only real drawback is that you pretty much need a land raider to use them effectively, though that usually serves me quite well too.
Vanguard do have some interesting niches, what with their heroic intervention ability, though the termies are the much more versatile cc unit imho.

that's why vanguard are so much more expensive. they have a versitility and rapidity of movement avaliable to them that few other units can contend with.now granted for the points assault terminators are the no-brainer choice when it comes to points, but if you play really sneaky-like, then vanguard are actually the top option.
Definitely looking awesome- I think I would use MaxMini's Jump packs instead, but with the blood angel 'wings' added to them to give a pre-heresy raven-ish feel. If that even makes sense. Are those resin shoulders/heads for some of them? The effect looks like it could be incredible when painted up!
Yes there are forgeworld shoulders and heads in there. and now I've finished building the unit, there is also brass etching on them too
I just wanted the sergeant to have wings to make him stand out.
I do have a few heresy jump packs, but I'm saving them for a few swap out options for the squad, mostly thunder hammer and stormshields

Awesome use of FW Crack there. was suspecting the Corvus heads were resin, and the shoulders would make sense from there. not to mention I have a FW Shadow Spectre sitting about a foot from me waiting for me to get him asembled and painted up. He's.. a bit daunting as eldar go- great looking poses, but good god there's a lot of pieces compared to most eldar.
They Raven Guard are a codex chapter by organization and tactical doctrine, but they choose to fight on their own terms. their preferred hit and run tactics incur less casualties on the chapter as a whole, which is helpful as their recruitment is low compared to other chapters.
