Loretta was sent to Baroque after an unsuccessful year in a juvenile ward in England. I don't have the authority at the time of this writing to examine the records of her diagnoses but my time spent with her has been both pleasant and exceedingly disturbing, more-so than any other patient I've met.
She appears to be very aware of being "British," designating a daily tea time for herself despite being raised in a household that did not drink tea at all. She hides her natural Cockney accent very well in place of something a bit more stereotypical and posh.
Her left arm was amputated above the elbow three years ago after treatment of a self-inflicted wound ultimately failed. She seems to have retained her youthful dexterity despite the loss of limb, only asking for assistance in getting her four watches on her forearm every morning.
When speaking with Loretta, it becomes immediately apparent that you are not necessarily who you say you are to her. For example, she referred to me as "a cat" even after I introduced myself. However, I was treated as any other human being in her presence. Until I read her official report, I can only wonder if she truly sees me as an enormous anthropomorphic cat or if it was just some sort of code or metaphor. Regardless of her perception, she is a pleasant and friendly hostess. To think a girl like this caused such an extreme wound all by herself as to have her arm amputated only reminds me what kind of a world I've put myself in here at Baroque.
Or perhaps it just reflects my ignorance.
