A tail I just finished for a commission. It's mostly black, as you see, with a yellow underbelly, which you can see a little bit of, and a row of spikes down the spine.
I don't think I'll have a chance to take nice photos of it being worn, but I'm at least glad to have gotten a photo that shows the spikes pretty well. They're a really reflective mirror-like finish, which means that they're hard to photograph, and often come out looking black.
Made of anodized aluminum scales (black and yellow), with spikes (nickel-plated steel I believe), woven together with stainless steel rings.

The base price for the tails is $200, which gets you steel or anodized aluminum (colors!) scales. Other metals are (usually) more expensive.
The thing to note is, there's a reasonable but limited set of colors that the scales come in. Orange exists, but different shades of it don't. Black is good, but for a dark gray it's trickier. Maybe a blackened stainless steel would be a reasonable approximation?
Feel free to check here for more info about the tails.
