The fool has spent years abroad, loving, fighting, striving to live by the secrets of all that life has taught her. As she travels, she comes upon a moonlit courtyard with a lone figure kneeling at a well. The ranger is illuminated chiefly by a lantern as she inspects a water lotus. Her visage intent on discovering the hidden intricacies of the simple plant.
"Why do you stare so seriously?" the fool asks.
Without even a glance to the fool, the ranger answers softly, "Everything in the world holds a secret. All you need do is investigate. This water lotus is by itself beautiful, but worthless..." then she pauses to sift through the petals and shows the fool a small insect at the tip of her finger. "But the waterbug that lives inside its embrace is valued for its medicinal properties."
The fool is astonished.
"There is much in the world that has value and all that needs happen is for one to look more closely." and with that, the ranger leaves, stalking into the dark of the night to leave the fool bathed in the light of the lantern, the light of understanding.

The Hermit is a card of intuition, of analysis and virginity. The lone figure represents solidarity and peace. Time to oneself.

I LOVE this card. I had such a hard time deciding on colors, but once I did, this piece came together quickly and turned out so much better than I could have imagined. I love putting together the fool's journey story with the single image. It's very evocative and I try to play out the meanings of the cards in the images and add as much imagery as possible, but with this card, it was a lone figure and a lantern...not much to work with. But I think it turned out well.
