Wraith Chimera Nephilidus wing reference
Ah, okay... You know how a bat's/dragon's wings are more like disproportioned arms than a bird's wings? Wraith Nephilidus has those, except there are no permanent wing membranes, just freely-moving phalanges that operate just like normal hands, only the proportions are wrong.
As real wings-- that is, wings that are legitimate flight engines-- they are extremely powerful limbs, and without wing membranes to produce air friction and restrict movements, they make utterly lethal striking limbs with tremendous reach. They are also strong enough to walk on, and lift Wraith's body from the ground in the process on the phalanges alone.
Now, the wings, as I said, are WINGS. They're not just mutated, wing-proportioned arms and hands. The membranes are actually temporary and disposable, and they are made of spider silk. Dense strips of spinnerets make a line down the phalanges so that the spinnerets can bind the silk to the opposite surface and pull away to form a flight-capable membrane as soft as silk, as light as a feather, and stronger than steel.
I wanted to express the arm-like nature of the wings by positioning the forward wings in a manner much like the gestures being made with Wraith's arms, and all four wings are in completely different positions to sort of show off their range of motion, or at least much of it. If I wanted to show their full range of motion, I'd need a lot more space and way more patience.
Yeah, he's naked and I marked it as general, but it's a reference sheet without clothes so just deal.
