I did this in mspaint..
And it took WAY too long.
Any ideas for free software I can get where I just hookup a tablet and go?

Well, http://firealpaca.com/ is pretty good. I use it for all my drawing needs.
Also, there's http://wistinga.online.fr/opencanvas/ , which a lot of artists like. It's a pretty good program.
Yes, I've used both.
Well, I prefer firealpaca, because it's better for making finished art. You have all the stuff you need in the program to make a fully finished drawing.
If you're looking to just do sketches, I'd recommend opencanvas, because it's good for sketched work. Some people do their finished art in opencanvas. But, I personally find it to be a bit of a chore all around. It's a pretty good program for painting as well, if you have the patience for that aspect of art.
All in all, just play around in each program and see how ya feel. Both are free, so take your time with each and see which one you prefer.
I recommend looking up some tutorials on how to use the programs. I remember when I first started in digital art, I didn't know what was what. I had to do a lot of playing around with the programs I used until I learned how stuff worked. I never knew about tutorials, so it took me well over a year to learn digital art.
Hope this helps.
Also, there are other free art programs out there, but, they can get confusing. These 2 that I've linked you, I believe, are the easiest of them to learn.

Thanks so much! I'll keep that in mind when I'm exploring them. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up most of the things I need to be able to make my art its best through the tutorials. I'm really pumped to see what I can do. People just like yourself make such diverse and excellent art and I hope to do the same
