Blackfire Wisps

Blackfire Wisps are an enigma, it's unknown what caused the creation of them as a part of the cataclysm however they certainly didn't exist before it. It's believed by the Keepers that Blackfire Wisps are a side effect of the Blackfire itself, the term used to describe the encroaching decay of the cataclysm. What is most interesting about them though is that they cannot survive within the lands claimed by the cataclysm, it's as if they are opposed to it in some manner that makes them weak to it however they are also incredible assets to those who would attempt to traverse such land. Within blackfire lands light does not function like it normally should, instead it is absorbed and dulled to a near pitch black which is what coined the term “Blackfire” for the decay. With the right magical protections and a specialized lantern called a “Whitefire Lantern” made to hold a single Wisp the creatures can instead repel the blackfire allowing up to three people to traverse the blackfire lands with the right magical protections on themselves as long as they stay close to the lantern.
These lanterns are extremely delicate however, the magic set upon them carefully placed in a careful manner which allows for some jarring. However, one too many bumps and any impact against these lanterns will utterly shatter them allowing the Wisp to be consumed by the blackfire.

----Blackfire Wisp Bio----
These small creatures live outside of the blackfire and are mostly harmless, save for the occasional burst of energy they let out. They come in the for of three concentrated balls of white fire revolving around a central ball of black fire from different axises. They seem intelligent to some extent and show some range of emotion that shows when the formation of the white balls revolving around them change pattern. This is just as useful as they are as a Whitefire Lantern since they can detect creatures of the blackfire lands allowing them to alert the wielder of possible danger, scholars of the Keepers are especially fond of these Wisps for this reason and simply enjoy keeping them like pets. There is a downfall to these Wisps though, when consumed by the blackfire the Wisps energy explodes violently sending out random magical bursts that can tear the immediate area to shreds in a matter of seconds including anyone in the vicinity before imploding in on itself. This wild effect deters most from wanting to have anything to do with venturing into the blackfire lands since without a lantern or some form of magic to reveal their surroundings it's impossible to see.
