Fallen Keepers (UFBT Creature Compendium Excerpt)
Fallen Keepers
----Fallen Keepers Origin----
Keepers of Knowledge in the past were known for powerful sorcery and incredible acts that borderlined on miracles, some say that they even excelled beyond the mortal body to the essence of the world itself bestowing upon it the magic for which to quell even the most dangerous magic. Unfortunately for the Keepers they knew not of the impending cataclysm nor how it would start leaving them entirely defenseless to drive it back. Most believed that the stories of such powerful keepers were simply that, just stories they told each other to boast and brag, however, when the first Fallen Keeper emerged from the void of the cataclysm these stories were proven very true and brought with it the almighty capabilities of the most powerful spell weavers ever to exist. There are two kinds of Fallen Keeper's, there are the ones who's connection to the world left them as powerful wraiths that only seek to destroy and drain the essence of living creatures. Then there are the Risen, these Keepers, of which only 3 are known, are still claimed by the cataclysm however they somehow retained their capability to think rationally yet they are still wraiths capable of the destruction others of their kind possess.
----Fallen Keepers Bio----
These wraiths are by no means friendly, they seek the living, thrive off their essence, and leave behind only the husk of a shell which was their body. They have differing appearance that resembles the person they used to be however they all share a few specific qualities. They have ghost like incorporeal bodies with wispy tendrils where they would normally have legs, their arms are long, gangly, and skeletal looking, they seem to wear some sort of sleeveless robe with a cowl and hood to top it, and their faces resemble who they once were. While they do not look like much the inability to touch them without something magical makes dealing with the Fallen Keepers extremely dangerous. They can lash out the wispy tendril making them momentarily physical as they use them to grab living creatures and slice into them able to cut off entire limbs with an accurate enough slice. As well, if one were to manage to get their hands around the body of another creature, they then proceed to rip the creatures life force and essence in only seconds leaving behind only the dried up corpse. Fortunately the Fallen Keepers do not interact with one another and therefore are only found wandering alone most of the time making escaping them relatively easy, but even with a small group to fight against one these wraiths prove more than formidable.
----”Risen” Keepers----
Despite having control over their new form, many people despise the Risen, they believe they are a trick spewed forth from the cataclysm in the form of something simply acting trustworthy. In fact many have attempted to kill the Risen on multiple occasions out of simple fear despite the fact that not once has a Risen killed anyone whom have attacked them although they have sent them back battered and bruised from the fight. As is currently known there are only three Risen in existence, Nyl, Rem, and Faryl. They all look completely different from that of a normal Fallen Keeper while still retaining their ghostly physical appearance. In particular Faryl is the most known since he is the only one that resides outside the border of the blackfire, a term used to describe the encroaching decay of the cataclysm.
----Faryl----
Faryl is a strange one of the Risen, some call him a prankster while others call him a genius while in truth he is a little of both. In life Faryl was one of the greatest Keepers ever known and is the only one that predicted the war between the Keepers and Waymakers would end in truce however even he himself couldn't come to understand why. It was as if the essence of the world itself had told him something would bring the war to an end, something completely outside their control. It was almost unfortunate that he had to pass away before the end came, but at the same time it was a boon that would prove needed in bringing the blackfire to a painstakingly slow crawl. The Keepers claim that if not for Faryl the knowledge needed to create the barriers which hold back the blackfire would have never been discovered, but the only proof of this was a man who died to bring the information to the Keepers. Some believe that it was the Waymakers who figured out the barriers, but only Faryl would know the real truth and no one is brave enough to visit Faryl's mansion without hostile intent and each time they have been sent back hurt, but alive and well.
