Thats the reason why we have...get this...DIFFERENT CHARACTERS!!! to fight in the place of thse who have fallen. I just hate It when people make it seem like one character can do it all. Evrtone needs to realize that EVERYONE and EVERYTHING has its physical, mental, and phycological limits and death is the ultimate cut-off point thats why in the real world there is always someone to carry on in ones place. If you vaugely believe in this, tell everyone else and spread the word so they can get it straight.
No, I don't think it works that way either. Every person has their own story, and you can't just take over someone else's when they die. I've faced plenty of trials on my own, without anyone to back me up or clean up after I fail. Is it even right to ask that of another person?
It's not that I don't see your point of view, heck, my favorite character from Beowulf was Wiglaf. But even then, Wiglaf was never a replacement for Beowulf- he was a hero in his own right. Out of an entire army, he was the only one who stayed to defend his king. And he was just as weak as any other mortal.
If I were to get shot while delivering pizzas, sure they'd find a replacement driver... but that doesn't exactly fill me with hope.
Man may be mortal but that shouldn't make him insignificant. People need heroes- even fictional ones.

Dammit I didnt mean 'absolute replacements' I meant people that carry on in ones place because they want to AVENGE, KEEP THE MEMORY OF THAT PERSON ALIVE! Becaues they Love that person, when one is gone they can no longer fight for their dreams so people out of pure passion and love alone continue in thir footsteps, Jesus Christ, People do need heroes, but I think a person who is a mortal would be a much better hero? Why? Because if people see that a person no more, no less that mortal can do extrordinary things then one can believe in themselves too. Can you relate yourself to suprman? megaman? no you cant. Why? because they are more than human, the more human they are then less awareness of the mortal soul they have.
<_< I always related to Megaman X... but I'm wierd.
(heh, the ironic thing is that this comic is the first time I've had anyone other than X in that armor. X is the holographic cyber-elf on the side.)
And revenge isn't enough. Your talking about the same motivation that runs Mob mentality, zelots, and feuds. Memories become twisted untill you're no longer fighting for a person you never really understood in the first place.
Oooo, Superman... there's a whole new can o' worms. Yeah, they've made Superman WAY to powerfull. I mean, now he can hear anyone in trouble, all over the world? That makes him responcible for every single bad thing that happens all over the planet! So he's gotta decide between saving someone falling off a building, someone getting raped, or a cat in a tree??! That's messed up! That makes maintaining his identity as Clark Kent like criminal neglect! How can you have dinner with Lois if there's a crime in the city every thirty seconds?!
On the other hand- I absolutely love the character of Clark Kent. He's like the most average, awkward, useless, invisible cog of society- yet he's cappable of great things! Not to mention, Clark makes up the moral center of Superman.
Yes we have limits, but it's human to push those limits... Accept limmitations and mortality too quickly, and we accept the fact that we are nothing.
