Sjoulvien OC - Seraphim
╭━━━━━━━Sjoulvien━━━━━━━╮
Sjoulvien are a new species created by myself and
jansither. They are a closed species, so please do not make one unless you get one from us! These WILL be on sale soon, so keep a lookout! This is my Sjoulvien OC, Seraphim.
Sjoulvien are an ocean-dwelling species of creature that reside on the planet Aerikal, taking in oxygen through several thin gill slits on each side of their necks. They are roughly the size of an Amur (Siberian) tiger in body size, though much more lithe and streamlined. Their facial features resemble a cross of both a wolf and an Aerikalian dragon, with powerful jaws that exert immense force - enough to crush a beam of steel! Their paws are large, bearing semblance to a big cat's paws, with retractable claws that are sharp and hooked for latching onto prey both on land and in water. There is thick webbing between each toe, aiding in swimming quickly. Their fur is short in some areas, very silky and slick - you wouldn't be able to grab onto one and keep your hold on them, for sure! The fur near the backside of the female Sjoulvien grows longer into silky tendrils that flow down the top part of its tail and its hindquarters, though in the male Sjoulvien, the backfur and hindquarter fur accumulate into a full mane of sorts. The fur on the legs and below the ears on each gender is long and silky, flowing like water beneath the ocean. The fur on their necks is slightly spiky, jutting backward from the neck to create a mohawk like mane. Their tails are long and muscular, with enough strength in them to sweep a grown man clear off of his feet and across the room. Males have ful fans of brightly coloured feathers on the ends of their tails, and females have a half-fan. Each gender has two 'whiskers' that start at either side of their hips, with a large feather attached to the end of each. Each Sjoulvien has three short horns on its forehead, leading up to a larger set of horns that sweep backward to protect the neck.
Unique to this species are their wings, which are vestigial and not at all useful on land - though in water, they help to propel the Sjoulvien forward (and backward, and sideways!) at great speeds in conjunction with the use of its tail. Both female and male Sjoulvien have a glowing lure akin to the lure of an angler fish, though much larger and, in the case of our fantastic creatures, purely for decoration purposes and for attracting mates. The brighter and more beautiful the glow, the stronger and more handsome a mate they might gain!
The areas in which they live are dependant on the personal preference and the tribe; a lone Sjoulvien may live in the ocean shallows, content to have the sun on its back as it swims, the moonlight glancing off of its fur as it skims the water at night - and another might live deep in the ocean, where no light would reach its eyes.
Sjoulvien often mate with only one or, in some cases, two other Sjoulvien per mating season. Gestation is normally between three to six months, depending on the size of the 'brood', or litter, which are born in transparent, glasslike eggs that resemble a chicken's egg in shape. The lure of the Sjoulvien fetus grows brighter during development, and when it is at its brightest, the hatchling breaks its way out of its egg with its sharp teeth, and eats the shell for sustenance. Shortly thereafter, it is ready to hunt on its own with the guidance of its parents and tribe members.
Sjoulvien are omnivores. Though they prefer meat, they will dine on kelp and other aquatic plants as well.
Often seen in their quadrapedal forms, anthropomorphic Sjoulvien are a possibility, though it is up to the individual Sjoulvien and their personal preference. They are, in a sense, shapeshifters, and can morph their body to be bipedal or quadrapedal.
