Most everything else concept wise here is
It was all the rattle’s fault. It was ALL THE STUPID RATTLE’S FAULT!!!
Petie had been trying to do the good, responsible, big brother thing and check to see if his baby sisters had woken up from their nap. He’d tiptoed into the nursery, peeked into their pram, and after finding them both still asleep (and of course pausing to pat their little white furred heads affectionately) he’d turned to leave. That was when he saw it just lying there on the floor, a baby rattle. It was a simple model with a pastel pink frame holding the white bead filled ball which had a pastel pink heart printed on it. It looked plain, simple, and like something you’d find in any baby girls nursery…
Except Petie knew the twins didn’t have a rattle like that.
Picking up the little toy Petie became even more confused since it didn’t feel like the usual cheap, smooth plastic baby toys like this were made of. Sure it was light like plastic but there was density to it like it was somehow made from ceramics… which honestly didn’t make any sense. Due to working with the Cuddlebutts company Petie had seen a LOT of baby toys before and none of them had felt like this. As he stood there trying to puzzle out where the strange toy had come from Petie absentminded gave it a slight shake, unable to keep from smiling a little at the soft, musical sound it made…
Then everything went right to hell.
There was a sudden flash of light that left Petie blind for a moment and, when his eyes cleared, the rattle was gone and he was falling though some kind of void. A pastel pink void. This stumped him enough he hadn’t realized all his clothes but his diaper had vanished with the rattle… didn’t notice until this pink mist or powder or whatever it was start circling around him like some kind of clingy pet. To make things worse, wherever the stuff grabbed this horrible costume appeared! It was like some sicko’s twisted take on the transformations in one of Rose’s magical girl animes!!
First his diaper bulked up to what Petie guessed was newborn thickness and turned pink and girlish. Then a pastel pink (he was starting to sense a color theme here) onesie appeared on him that grew puffy sleeves with frilly openings, a pastel yellow bib (definitely a color theme) with frills, and finally the onesie snapped closed over his diaper, which unfortunately pushed his legs out even further apart. This wasn’t made any better by the short, pastel blue, ruffled, two layer skirt that appeared around his waist either followed by white booties and mittens with pastel pink bows appearing on his paws. He couldn’t really see what the mist did to his face but his lips felt poutier and the thick, girlish eyelashes were obvious. He cast his eyes up just in time to see a pink bow tie his cowlick and curls up in the most babyish possible way, followed by a pink heart appearing on the front of the bib and another flash of light blinding him.
By this point he was ready to cry and praying this was just a honey overdose induced nightmare… but Arceus wouldn’t let him be that lucky. Arceus NEVER lets him be that lucky.
His vision came back slowly as he realized he was clutching the rattle in one of his mitten covered paws… the second thing he realized was that he wasn’t in the twin’s nursery anymore. He was in some kind of room with baby blue walls with pastel yellow edging, ceiling, and soft padded floor like a playrooms play mat. The room was mostly empty except for a few little plastic looking toddler tables with books on them and a… circle in a circle made of blue paint on the floor around him with scribbles in between them. At this point it was only pure confusion that kept Petie from realizing his head was only a foot away from the ceiling, meaning it was insanely low… at least kept him from noticing till a voice in front of him mumbled “Hmmph, too big. Far, far too big.” making him look down.
There was this little, white, bunny… thing standing there. It wasn’t like any buneary or lopunny he knew of with its white fur, red and black tummy, red and black tipped ears, and a red and black symbol on its head… not to mention it was wearing some kind of ascot thing and a monocle. At this point Petie was confused enough all he could managed to do was babble a confused sound “Bababuboogagoo?” as he stood there and watched the bunny mess with what looked like one of those rubber rimmed mirrors toddlers sometimes played with.
Then the room started to spin for Petie again as he lost his balance and fell on his bottom with a squeak, mostly due to surprise since his diaper was too thick for it to hurt him. As he sat there swaying a little he slowly realized what was causing the dizziness. He was shrinking. It took a solid minute for that fact to pierce through the armor thick layers of utter confusion wrapping around his head but when it did Petie let out a shrill, terrified scream as he realized he’d gone from a bit under 4 feet tall to just a little under two feet in height. The bunny thing which originally came up to his waist or so now was the same height as him as it walked over and looked down at the panicking bear.
“Well at least now you don’t stand out so badly… and stop screaming!!”
Petie flinched at the shout from the bunny. Her voice was squeaky like a toddler’s cartoon character but it was also distinctly female and carried a tone like a few of the less patient teachers he’d known through his life. He was still too embarrassed, confused, upset, and really, REALLY confused to even try to understand what was happening as he cried like an infant while sitting there. This led to a few seconds of the bunny creature looking between the mirror and him before sighing and mumbling “Well I can see why the rattle mistook you for an infant…” which would have normally brought Petie’s confusion and fear around a full 180 to anger…
But before he could the Bunny thing was kneeling next to him and hugging him. Her fur was soft like an infants toy as she gently rubbed his back and tried to calm him… which actually did help a little even if she apparently only half knew what she was doing considering how awkward her motions were. Finally after a moment of this Petie’s sobbing died down to a quiet whine as the bunny let go of him and scooted away a little so they could look each other in the eyes… which made Petie notice her eyes were two different colors. That didn’t keep him from asking what was on his mind though…
“What da heck is going on here!?”
“You’re going to help save out world… um… darn it I knew I should have paid attention to the family when I watched the twins… what’s your name again?”
“Petie… and you were spying on my sisters!?”
“Not in a bad way! Please just let me explain, we REALLY don’t have much time here.”
Between the stupid costume, the shrinking, the spying, and everything else Petie really just wanted to continue screaming and demanding to be sent home… but something about the pleading tone in the bunny’s voice triggered that annoying little thing called a conscious in the back of his head making him groan “Fine, explain then.” and fold his arms unhappily. “Thank you…” the bunny said before standing back up and adjusting her monocle “First introductions. I am Shuffle, royal court mage of the Kingdom of Innocence. Which you are now in.” she said giving a small bow and not even bothering to acknowledge Petie’s blank, confused look at this statement.
“It’ll make more sense if I show you rather than trying to explain. Come on.” She said taking Petie by his paws and pulling him to his feet making the teddiursa squeak in surprise. Due to his thick diaper he was waddling awkwardly and thought for a moment he’d topple over… but Shuffle kept a fur paw on his and didn’t tug him along too fast letting him just barely keep his balance and keep up with her as she led him through a door he didn’t notice before. He found himself in a hall wallpapered with a star and moon print obviously meant for a nursery as he was tugged along, only allowed to look around enough to notice how all the doorways and things looked… well… rounded and baby safe.
Suddenly they came across a rounded window that Shuffle easily pushed open like the porthole of a ship. It was set just high enough they could look out of it but not so low they could actually climb out, another baby-safe feature Petie guessed as he waddled over to it to see where he was. The first thing that hit him was a soft breeze that smelled of baby powder, formula, sweets of all kinds, and almost every nursery or daycare he’d ever been in…
The second thing that hit him was he wasn’t in Viridian anymore.
The sky above was a clear pastel blue with soft, fluffy clouds that looked like something you’d paint on the ceiling of a toddler’s room… complete with a pastel yellow sun that Petie was telling himself WASN’T smiling brightly at him. Everywhere he looked soft pastels mixed with bright primary colors to create a landscape out of some kid’s toyland dream. In the distance he could see what looked like a city made of giant toddler’s shape blocks along with another made of baby blocks with a giant toy train system running between them. Even further in the distance a magnificent toy like castle stood with giant baby bottles standing in for a few of its towers.
And it wasn’t just the architecture in this place either. The ground looked like a giant baby’s patchwork blanket made of soft squares of brightly colored fabric draped to make rolling hills. And what wasn’t blankets was made of toddler play-mats. Even looking down he could see he was in a tower made of what was unmistakably a baby’s stacking ring toy. Everywhere he looked things were made soft, rounded, babyish, and to be perfectly blunt impossible since for one the tower he was looking down at was WAY too small to house the hallway he’d just waddled down to get to this window. It was all way, way too much for Petie to take in as he swayed on his feet and fell back onto his diaper again.
Petie sat there, mind finally just about to give up from sheer sensory overload. He didn’t even fully notice Shuffle sigh and start messing with that mirror she was carrying until they started to glow. Even then he noticed the glow more as an after-thought then actually realizing what was happening as they were suddenly teleported to another room with what looked like a pink, rubber covered fridge and a little girl’s toy stove and cooking set. Petie was still in his blank minded daze as Shuffle pulled something out of the fridge and shoved it into his mouth.
Pure reflex and instinct took over as Petie laid back on the soft padded floor and cradled the large baby bottle with his hands and feet as he steadily nursed the chocolate milk out of it, the sweet familiar taste of it slowly helping to calm his frayed nerves. He laid there nursing like an infant till he finally realized he’d been sucking on an empty baby bottle for the past few seconds and slowly pulled it out of his mouth, letting out a soft burp as he did so. He laid there for a moment more before Shuffle took the empty bottle from his paws, set it on a table, and helped to pull him back up to a sitting position before speaking.
“You done panicking right now?”
“U-uh huh…”
“Good, and you’re cute when you’re nursing.”
Petie blushed even more at that as Shuffle sat in one of the tiny plastic chairs he was used to seeing in kindergartens… which gave her extra height on him since he was sitting on the floor and made Petie feel even more like a baby. “Now then, as you should be able to tell you’re no longer in your world. The Kingdom of Innocence is a place called a “Conceptual World” and… well… it’d take too long to full explain and would likely go over your head,” She said, making Petie frown a little and consider telling her that despite how he was dress he WAS a teenager. She continued before he could though: “To put it simply this is a place built around everything in the concept of innocence, meaning it’s a pure place made of babies, toddlers, toys, and…”
“And whatever you are?”
“… I’m a fairy, I’ll forgive you that one since you couldn’t have known but be careful. Most fairies have the authority to put you in a time out for a question like that.”
“Sorry…”
“It’s okay, now where was I…? Oh yes, you see Petie normally there’s very little… violence in this world.” The way she paused on the word violence was like a somebody trying to say a foreign word they didn’t’ fully understand the meaning of. “Sure there is play fighting and roughhousing but nothing bigger… which is why we’re currently helpless against the invading outsiders.” She said as she sat in silence and waited for Petie to catch up to the sudden left turn the conversation had taken. “O-outsiders?” he stuttered after a minute of blinking “What the heck are they? And what do you mean invading?” he asked before tilting his head a little at Shuffle’s amused smile “And what are you smiling about?”
“I apologize, I just didn’t expect questions as intelligent as that. I was planning for your sisters you see and even with an intelligence boost from the rattle babies are still babies… anyway as to your questions the outsiders are exactly what they sound like. Monsters from outside this world who are not part of it or bound by our rules. As for the invading…” she gave a sad shrug “We are as in the dark as you are, we don’t know HOW they’re getting into our world undetected… in fact we don’t know they’re here till they start attacking and the only reason they haven’t taken over is because Mommy & Daddy have managed to drive them off each time… at least for now.”
“Mommy & Daddy?”
“They are the guardian spirits of this island and the parents of every baby here… but we’re getting too off track.” She said, getting up and pulling Petie back to his feet “The key point is that our world is under attack and we can’t defend it so it fell to me to find pure hearted babies to empower to defend it for us… but something went wrong and I got you instead.” She said, Petie feeling a little offended by the disappointment in her voice, before she picked up the rattle Petie had dropped to nurse the bottle and put it back in his paws “So YOU will have to fight for us till I can correct this as the magical child Heart Baby. Please, you’re our only hope.”
Petie just stared at her for a moment, his mind flashing back through the hundreds of Animes, Mangas, Cartoons, and Comics where that exact line or something similar had been used to drag a hero into a conflict… yet he couldn’t remember any heroes having to do it cross-dressing like this even in Rose’s weirdest cartoons. He blinked as he realized Shuffle had started pulling him along again while he was lost in his thoughts. Digging his heels in, which was pretty useless thanks to his baby booties and the soft floor, he tried to pull away from her.
“H-hey! I haven’t agreed to this yet!”
“We don’t have any time to deal with you being silly, come on already!”
“B-but I… but…” Petie trailed off as he realized he’d managed to pull them to a stop in front of a decorative mirror hanging on the wall, letting him get a good look at his reflection seeing how his costume looked in full for the first time… along with what happened to his face. He’d already known about the long, doll-like eyelashes but now he could see his lower lip had gain a slight pink sheen and become a little puffy and had a cute baby girl pout, his cheeks had become beautifully rosy, and little round, pink baby earrings dangled from his ears like little pearls. He stared at his reflection in utter, slack-jawed silence for almost a minute before he finally reacted.
“WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY FACE!?”
“Oh for MOMMY’S sake not THIS again!!!”
Before Petie could resume his tantrum/breakdown, Shuffle shouted something that sounded like gibberish and a pacifier appeared in Petie’s mouth and stuck fast leaving him only able to mumble around it as he sucked on the thing. While he was busy trying to tug the thing out of his mouth, and failing, Shuffle shouted more gibberish and Petie found himself strapped into a stroller leaving him kickling and flailing helplessly as Shuffled started pushing him down the hall, muttering to herself as she went.
“I prepped these spells in case whichever twin I got started pitching a fit, looks like they work just as well on you… you sure you’re not really an infant? Anyway like I said we don’t have time for you to be stupid, you’re needed to save the day THEN we can work on getting somebody else for the job!”
Petie pouted as the most he could do was shake his rattle unhappily as his stroller was pushed down the hall and out a door into the bright sunshine making him squint a little. When he adjusted to the light he realized he must have been REALLY overwhelmed when he first looked out the window since he’d failed to notice that the castle and those cities he’d seen were on a giant floating island. If his jaw wasn’t clamped tight around his pacifier it would have dropped as he looked around more, seeing other, smaller floating islands all around the big one, both above and below it, as what looked like flying baby buggy’s, cradles, and even the occasional baby carrying stork filled the skyways around them.
“Yep, we use sky travel to get around from island to island in case you were wondering.” Shuffle said as she pushed him along a small path to the edge of the floating island the tower was on (ringed by what looked like playpen bars, more baby safety undoubtedly) to a tiny dock where a white baby buggy was floating in the air, tethered to the dock like a boat. Petie just stared at it, still stunned by the whole floating thing, as Shuffle stopped the stroller and walked around to the front of it to face him. She put a paw under his chin and moved his head so he was looking at her instead of the stroller before starting to talk in a stern tone.
“I’m going to let you out of the stroller and take your pacifier out now, if you start throwing a tantrum again though I’m putting the pacifier RIGHT back in and summoning up a baby carrier to strap you into. You understand?”
Petie nodded eagerly.
“Good, now get in. I’ll explain everything you need to know right now on the way.”
In a puff of smoke the pacifier and stroller vanished, dropping Petie on his bottom for the umpteenth time that day as he struggled to stand back up before toddling over to the buggy… and doing everything he could not to look down lest his fear of heights make him need a diaper change before the trip. As he struggled to climb over the edge of the buggy Shuffle gave him a shove, sending him tumbling in before she climbed in. By the time Petie had managed to right himself and sit back up the buggy had already cast off and was speeding through the sky… prompting Petie to promptly lay back down and hide his head under the red covers so he couldn’t see how high they were.
“What’s wrong? Don’t like heights?”
“Uh uh…”
“Sorry, But since you can hear me under there I’ll explain what the Hearts Rattle does.”
“Hearts Rattle?”
“I’m not good at naming things okay? Anyway this is important so no interruptions!”
“Otay…”
“Good. Anyway the Hearts Rattle was made to be sent to another world and to activate when a baby shook it. It must have mistaken you for a baby, which no offense couldn’t have been too hard.”
“… believe me, I knu…”
“Right, anyway it mistook you for a baby and activated, giving you the costume and powers of Heart Baby and bringing you here. And before you ask, it was made for your baby sisters and in a BIG hurry so don’t complain about the costume.”
“… what powers did I get?”
“… um… to be honest I’m not sure. It was made to make an infant strong, agile, fast, and durable enough to stand, run, and fight… but you’re not an infant. So I honestly have no clue what it did to you… a-anyway! Other than that the rattle itself is almost indestructible meaning it can work as a blunt weapon if needed. It also contains several special moves I programed into it… sorta.”
“What do you mean by sorta?”
“… I said I made it in a rush right? I kind of just dumped everything I had that I thought would be useful into it… but I’ll tell you what they are as you need them so don’t worry too much about it.”
“You’ll tell me? How?”
“Remember those earrings?”
“Trying not to, but yeah…”
“Well they work like two way baby monitors to let you hear what I’m saying to you from far away as well as the opposite.”
“… you mean walkie talkies?”
“Is that what they’re called? Hmmm, I’ll have to pay more attention when I spy on worlds with electronics. Anyway I’d planned on coaching whichever twin I got through the fight with the outsiders. Speaking of which we’re here so get your head out from under the covers. I’ve had to talk to your diaper butt long enough.”
Petie groaned at that comment as he reluctantly pulled his head out and risked a peek over the side of the buggy. He was once again awestruck by the utterly bizarre architecture of this place. He was looking down at a cardboard box city. Hundreds of cardboard boxes with crayon drawings of houses or buildings on the sides just stacked up on top of and next to each other with pathways between them to simulate a real city layout. He couldn’t help but remembering doing something similar when he was little and a new cardboard box could be found in the apartment...
And he was promptly ripped out of his remembrance of fonder times by the sound of babies and toddlers screaming and crying in fear. Whipping his head around Petie found the source of the noise as he watched little ones of all species fleeing like the extras in a Godzilla movie… as a rusty looking metal hook on a chain whipped over their heads tearing clear through the cardboard around them and barely missing tearing the heads off the kids. Petie could feel his blood start to boil as the world seemed to slow down while he traced the hook and chain back to its source. He didn’t have to look hard to find it.
It stood out like a sore thumb against the colorful world around since the creature looked like he’d escaped from one of Petie’s fighting animes. It was tall, probably adult sized which meant it loomed over everything around it, and had a dark grey, long limbed body with a black leather jacket over its torso… and over that it had what looked like a body armor made of bright red motorcycle parts and spikes. The windshield and upper frame of the bike formed one shoulder and a pair of handlebars jutted out of its other shoulder. Mufflers jutted out of its upper thighs and its legs looked to be made from modified shocks and bike wheels. A flame red Mohawk adorned its skeletal head and one of its eyes was made out of a headlight while the other was hidden by half a pair of wrap-around sunglasses jutting from the headlight. One of its arms was wrapped in a chain that led to the hook it was currently swinging with its other hand as it laughed madly.
Petie watched for a moment as the cackling monster (which under any other circumstances would have looked pretty cool to Petie) swung its hook through the air ripping more buildings apart and just barely missing ripping a few of the fleeing children apart with it. Shuffle just shuddered as she turned to steer the buggy “I’ll try and land behind him so you can sneak up and ambush that… whatever it is.” She said as the buggy started to move till Petie spoke up “You said this rattle gives me super durability, right?” he asked making the bunny fairy blink and shrug a little.
“In theory, but I don’t know for... hey! HEY!!!”
A slight confirmation was all Petie needed to make up his mind. Fear of heights or not, stupid costume or not, he wasn’t going to let some greaser-biker freakshow harm a baby if HE could do anything about it! He felt the wind whip past him as he threw himself over the edge of the buggy and hurtled towards the ground, Shuffle’s scream barely reaching him as he focused his gaze on the monster as it pulled its arm back for another strike… and Petie did the same with his rattle.
KA-THWACK!!!
The monster let out a scream of pain as Petie’s rattle collided with the side of its head sending it flying away while the teddiursa landed hard on his padded bottom, bounced back up, and managed to land cleanly on his feet… before stumbling forward a little and having to adjust his posture to compensate for his thick diaper. He didn’t know if he was hurt or not as the rush of adrenalin that was coursing through him made it difficult to focus on anything other than the monster in front of him as it struggled to get back up and clutched its head. He could faintly hear Shuffle’s stuttered and garbled sounds of disbelief through the earrings but he ignored them in favor of leveling his rattle at the monster and shouting as loud as he could (despite the slight squeak in his voice).
“Why don’t you try and pick on me tough guy!?”
There was a stiff silence as the monster slowly got back up, staring at Petie as its arms hung limp and its mouth turned down in a frown. Suddenly there was a revving noise as smoke shot out the mufflers in its legs and it rocketed forwards laughing madly as it tried to literally run Petie down. Adrenalin still pumping Petie had no clue what he was supposed to do… so his body took over as he tried to jump up and suddenly found himself soaring clear over the attacking biker to diaper bounce off of the remains of one of the cardboard buildings and charge straight at the monster before throwing himself at it.
Unfortunately Petie’s brain decided to pipe up at this point with “HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND!?” making him try to turn and backpedal in mid-air… causing him to slam diaper first into the monsters face as it just spun around on its wheels to chase him knocking it backwards into some of the rubble. Petie meanwhile tumbled to a sitting stop as his head spun a little and he felt like he was going to be sick. Did he REALLY just jump out of a flying baby buggy at least five stories up in the air to try and attack a motorcycle monster? And how did his life get insane enough he just needed to honestly ask himself that question!?
The sound of squeaky voices cheering snapped Petie back to reality (or whatever you’d call this world) as he turned to see what it was. Sure enough, the babies and toddlers who’d been fleeing for their lives seconds ago were now standing there, less than fifteen feet away cheering their lungs out for him. Getting on all fours for a moment before pushing himself back to his feet Petie opened his mouth to shout at them to stop looking and to keep running… but the hook and chain answered for him. The little ones screamed as it lashed out and just barely missed cleaving a cat toddler’s head clean off due to him falling to the ground before it could.
Doubts and questions pushed aside once again Petie threw himself towards where the monster was among the wreckage as it yanked the hook back trying to snag him with it… as Petie simply ducked under the chain and leapt forward, cracking his rattle down hard on the headlight built into the things face. A scream like car gears grinding escaped the biker’s throat as it threw its head back in pain and swung blindly at Petie while the teddiursa just dodged or blocked the wild blows and hammered down on the creature with his rattle, using the baby toy as a hammer to pound on the unarmored sections of the monster’s body furiously.
Finally, the monsters chain covered arm got a lucky shot and struck Petie hard across the cheek throwing him backwards and making him tumble to a stop against one of the buildings. Shaking his head to clear it, Petie wobbled back to his feet and rubbed his cheek, openly confused as to why that hadn’t hurt more… when he heard that revving motor sound again and turned to find the biker baring down on him hard and going way too fast to stop. He was about to scream when Shuffle’s voice sounded in his ears.
“Shout ‘Heart Rail Guard’! Shout it if you want to live!!”
“H-Heart Rail Guard!!!!”
Petie hadn’t even finished the words as the bulb of his rattle glowed and suddenly a row of thick, pink baby safety rails like on a crib shot up in front of him creating a barricade… that the biker crashed right into hard. The rails didn’t even buckle at the impact but it sent the monster staggering back, stunned and reeling. The glow on the rattle faded and the rails broke into motes of light and vanished as Petie stood there, mouth hanging open a little as he looked on in surprise… till Shuffle’s voice snapped him out of it again.
“Now finish it with your ultimate attack!”
“U-ultimate attack?”
“Yes! Hold your rattle up and shout the words ‘Love Me Heart’ and it’ll do the rest!”
Petie couldn’t believe he was actually about to do this… but he wasn’t about to argue with her after the rail thing saved his life. Holding his rattle up as high as he could he shouted out “Love Me Heart!!!” as the rattle glowed with a bright pink energy… and Petie found his body moving on its own. He swayed cutely as he traced the outline of a heart in the air with his rattle, a pink stream of energy actually drawing it as he went, before he finished and the outline filled with pink energy. Taking the rattle in both hands Petie found himself winding back and shaking his diapered butt cutely as he did so before he swung forward striking the heart shape and sending it rocketing at the monster.
The biker barely had time to look up before it struck him and exploded vaporizing the creature in pastel pink energy that continued to expand enveloping the whole area. Petie watched in awe as all the ruined buildings seemed to rebuild themselves as the energy enveloped them… or he would have watched in awe if his body wasn’t on auto pilot still. He groaned inwardly as he shook the rattle cutely then stood on one leg and held both hands down in front of him, smiling adorably to the babies watching him and winking completing a victory pose that he would likely have to KILL Shuffle over.
As the pink energy died down Petie could finally control his body again as he stumbled back into a normal (for a baby anyway) standing posture, wobbling a little on his feet as he did so. He took a moment to look around at the formerly destroyed but now pristine city of cardboard boxes around him and wondered for a moment if they were bigger on the inside like Shuffle’s tower… but he didn’t get to wonder too much on it as he found himself surrounded by all the babies and toddlers from earlier (a good deal of them, much to his shame, were taller than him) all eagerly asking questions, hugging him, and generally just being overexcited babies.
“Dat was awesome!!”
“Yur so cool! Who are yu?”
“Yu saved us! Awe yu a supahewo?”
Petie blushed and squirmed a little not sure what to do here… as Shuffle’s voice sounded in his ear “I’m taking control, just be ready to run away when the chance comes.” Which confused Petie… until his body started moving on its own again. To his horror he let out a girlish giggle and shook his rattle for emphasis as he could hear himself say “I’m Magical Child Heart Baby! I’ma supahewo here to pwotect all of yu!” he was forced to cheer as eagerly as one of the real babies as his body threw its arms up in excitement “Bu now is time for my nappies, bye bye~” he was forced to coo before his body turned and toddled away, much to the disappointment of the babies who called after him and tried to follow.
Before they could Petie regained control of his body and with a burst of speed powered by embarrassment and anger he easily outran them, collapsing on his bottom on the outskirts of the cardboard city and leaning against a giant, plush, alphabet block as he panted for breath and fumed. Petie didn’t know why but for some reason he was feeling like all his energy had been sucked out of him… he was honestly feeling like he needed to curl up and nap now. Before his eyes could fully droop closed he heard Shuffle’s voice again… this time in person instead of through his earrings.
“Petie! Climb in! … no, wait. Let me handle that.”
Looking around he saw the baby buggy a few feet in the air with Shuffle looking over the side at him and holding her mirror out so he was reflected in it. He was about to start cussing at her (though considering how tired he felt “Poopy Head” might be the best he could do) when he felt a tingling, floating sensation and his body glowed. Next thing he knew he’d been teleported into the buggy right next to Shuffle. Groaning and struggling to sit up he was about to give her a big piece of his mind for using him like some kind of puppet back there… till she wrapped her arm around him in a big hug.
“You did great!”
“H-huh?”
“It was amazing! You knocked that monster around like it was nothing!” Shuffle gushed, slightly star eyed “You see I programed the motions for the attack and the ability to take control of you in case one of your infant sisters couldn’t handle the fight and I needed to take over, and I’m very, VERY sorry I had to use it on you like that.” Her usual tone of slight superiority was replaced by being genuinely apologetic at that leaving Petie at a loss for words as she went on “But you were a natural! A real superhero! Jumping from the buggy like that, beating up the monster, everything! It was incredible!!”
“… how come I feel so tired now?”
“Ah, that’s because Love Me Heart takes up a lot of energy… in fact it might be best if you did take a little nap…” she said as she gently laid the squirming teddiursa back in the buggy, put a pillow under his head, and pulled the covers over him. Petie tried to resist but it was comfy and he was tiiiiiiired. Shuffle smiled down at him, a genuine kind smile like the kind you use for a new friend “Rest up, I’ll get us back to my tower and once you wake up I’ll explain more…” she said before kissing his little head “I know summoning you was a mistake but… thank you, thank you very much.” She added making Petie blush at this as he struggled to stay conscious.
“B-buuut…”
“But what?”
“D-dun dose babies know I’m notta little girl? My voice is a boys…”
“Here gender is mostly defined by what you wear or play with. You dress like a girl or play with girl toys and they consider you a girl… personally I find the way they handle that in your world weird.”
“… Shuffle?”
“Yes?”
“… I wanna go back home…”
“… um… give me a bit to work on that.”
Before Petie could protest further the mage conjured up a pacifier and popped it into his mouth. After a few sucks of it combined with the soft pillow, mattress, blanket, and gentle rocking motions of the flying buggy, Petie was out like a light dreaming about waking up back at home with all of this having been a dream.

Most everything else concept wise here is
Magic of Innocence
It’s a Girl! Part 1It was all the rattle’s fault.

Thought the fight done very well. Nicely pace and high praise on Shuffle getting Petie to calm down. Bear really did earn another bottle of chocolate milk. Heart baby is a wonderful, story really feel like anime or power rangers-ish show playing out in my head as i read it.
I dont know why. But at the end i got a super strong Dog Days vibe. Hero pulled into a different world to save the people of the kingdom from enemy forces. Once he completes the objective, he finds out he’s stuck in the world. I really do hope to see a continuation of this story even though its years old.
