Species Name: Wockey Raptor
Scientific Name: Aquuas Tyrenkii lich
Average Lifespan: 5 to 10 years in the wild
Height: 33 inches shoulder height (both sexes)
Weight: 80 to 100 lbs
Planet of Origin: Earth
Diet: Strict Carnivore (males) / Omnivore (females)
Info:
The Wockey Raptor is a fierce amphibious predator, especially the males of the species.
it's scientific name actually means 'brutal water claw' in the Primus language and with good reason. this creature is armed with a large sharp claw on their back foot that is used to rip into the flesh of it's prey. males are packed with hormones, making them extremely violent and hostile, whereas females are less aggressive and more gentle.
The breeding season is a very short but very strange time for these animals, as when a male has mated, his health will decrease. the average male will breed up to 4 times in his lifetime and will ultimately die of a seizure during his final stages of life, that is, if he is not killed off by other rival males. the female's health does not decrease, and can breed up to 7 times in their life and it is unknown as to why they do not suffer the same fate.
after breeding the females will then travel to a hot spring in which to lay their eggs.
being cold blooded, they cannot properly incubate the eggs, so they use the heat of the water to do it for them, though the female is not truly absent.
she will stay behind to watch her clutch of eggs until they hatch, to keep them from being eaten by other raptors. similar to lions, a male will destroy her egg clutch to bring her back into season and claim her as his own.
when the eggs hatch, the 'tadpoles' are then on their own.
surprisingly, these tadpoles are parasitic and seek out a host to live in for about 6 months. this stage in life is quite gruesome, as they feast on their host from the inside out. it is when the host dies, that they emerge big enough to fully fend for themselves.
even more bizarre, after emerging from the host, the females will live the rest of their lives dining on fish and berries whereas their male counterparts will hunt for larger prey.
keep in mind that they do not make good pets.
