This was something I've experienced personally growing up. Hearing Captain Kangaroo sounds like it's the most awesome thing ever.

Sidney, The Math Patrol's kangaroo detective, was only marginally better than Captain Kangaroo:

I may not be the Captain Kangaroo of your dreams but I can still be your Captain Dingaroo. ;)

Nah. It was a classic kids show hosted by Bob Keeshan (formerly Clarabelle the Clown on Howdy Doody), who played a grandfatherly fellow called Captain Kangaroo. "Captain" because his coat looked vaguely like a uniform, and "Kangaroo" because it had big pockets. He'd tell stories, take part in skits along with guest stars and puppet characters, introduce cartoons (including The Wombles, then new to American television), etc.
The series ran for 29 years before Keeshan called it quits. Not bad for a kid's show, even then.

Us graymuzzle's remember some about that show and until just now I had really not put 2 + 2 together to = 5 ... there was Mr. Greenjeans, I was very young when the show left the air so don't remember much more about it... but, yeah ... he didn't have anything to do with Roo's. P.S. Loved the Tilt video you helped with, that was really awesome. SB.
