"Why do I use this weapon? Well, you see, the foxen are not fond of females wielding swords in their territories. In fact, it's forbidden. But oddly, they'll let us use many other kinds of weaponry, and I've taken a liking to this one. I can pull off some neat tricks with it, too! And I don't hit my head with it..........most of the time."
After the Dragon Wars, the once proud dragons were defeated, with their queen missing and their homeland and northern territories mostly destroyed. The dragons of today live as servants, hoping to mend the damage they caused and restore their reputation.
Dragon guilds were constructed in many different cities for this very purpose. While dragons are still not welcome in the northern territories, many races have agreed to allow the dragons to build such guilds. It is there that the dragons offer themselves as hired hands for various tasks. Individuals that become hired and do their job well are awarded a band, usually worn on their neck. The color of the band gives a quick reference on how many jobs the dragon has successfully performed. Many novans consider a dragon wearing a Guild Band as a trustworthy individual and an honest worker. While dragons without bands are usually seen in a less positive light.
Saphine is a 'Softscaled', meaning her egg hatched after the war, where she was raised in the foxen territories; as the two have always had good relations with one-another. She began working in her city's guild at a very young age and quickly earned a positive reputation for being a hard worker, as well as a trustworthy individual. Upon finally receiving her white Band (a sign that one has completed their duties with the guild, entirely), she decided to stay within the foxen's territory to better understand them.
