There's actually an A6M5 Zero in the U.S. that has the original Japanese engine, but I've yet to see it.

I believe this Zero uses a R-1830 and a DC-3 prop :P most of the flyable zeros except the one FHC A6M5 have US engines/props

just easier to get than a 1940' vintage engine. Saw a History channel show where they built from scratch a Rolls Royce Merlin engine for a Restoration of a Spitfire. Took the restorers more than a year to finance, plan, build an then test it. Cost was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars but he sponsor had the means to get the money so they went for it. Old program, like 6 or 7 years ago.

exactly. And the fact that very few Japanese Saki engines survived the war means spare parts are going to be a bitch to find lol.
