They're incredibly brave -- insanely brave! There was one who save his master by taking on a bull long enough for the man to crawl away to safety. The Dachshund was gored twice. (Don't worry -- he survived.) Story always fascinated me -- little dog against an enormous bull, protecting Daddy.
