Poor old D'Angelo Macquilkin (Lion, G) must have had one of the toughest starts to a rookie career in the FBA ever, and it seems things the lion has hit hard luck wherever he goes at the moment wherever his career in the FBA takes him.
It all started on draft night, the plucky and enthusastic lion GB's big hope in the draft. Being the highest placed draft candidate for a long time put a lot of pressure but also a lot of media attention on the lion - and many expected him to go mid-first round, perhaps even earlier and secure himself a juicy contract, but things went realy really wrong. A propensity for teams to go for attacking players left the hyped lion with no big contract and without the fanfare finally getting picked up by Huntsville as pick 25. The whole affair was entirely embarrassing for the sometimes cocky feline, but at least he was in the FBA. Also, Huntsville pre-season were a team destined to go places, so at least there was that as well.
However, things at the Mayors haven't gone according to pre season predictions. Propping up the form table for large parts of the season, the inability of the likes of Nina Lime and recently transferred Paul Schafer massively affected the team dynamic and the team suffered hugely as a result, there was now a new name amongst the bottom dwellers. There was one flipside to this though and that was D'Angelo started to get some games, and after some strong showings from the bulky lion, he even started to get starts - playing a lot more regularly then a lot of the picks drafted above him. After a long run,. Huntsville strang three wins together, and the fans started to go crazy for the big cat who loves to pump the crowd up. Huntsville have warmed to the Brit baller, and his skills seemed highly apparent, some even called him an utter steal at 25th pick.
What happened next though would take a great start to his rookie career and sully it somewhat....
Just coming to the mid season break, and D'Angelo was turning heads even though it was in a team performing poorly. The lion had started to get a few less games and minutes as the team galvanised a touch, so it was no suprise that D'Angelo was tipped to be a starter in the All Star rookie game. However, when the squads were announced, another blow as the fans had not voted him in at all. Seemingly the opinions of those in Hunstville not yet shared by the wider fans as stock players at larger teams got the call outs instead. This just felt like yet another huge snub to the cat, as more rookies got called up then those who did not. This led to the large lion furiously throwing his remote at the hotel TV after a loss for the Mayors, the remaining part of the screen continuing to report on loop the 'shock and suprise' that he hasn't even been considered.
Despite all MacQuilkin has been through, the one thing still going very much his way is the continued recognition across the pond back at home. Most rookies who fall this far go un-noticed, but due to the lion's continued support after being chosen as one of the '12 for 2012' young rookies the TV stations follow through their exploits - the interest in basketball and the lion still remains high despite an obviously dissappointing start to his career. Just recently, he was featured on a sports panel show on national TV in Britain, and has affectionately picked up the nickname 'Big Mac' back at home. With that support back at home, he won't become 'The Forgotten Man' just yet anyway...

Lovely story, Big Lion! I admit to having a soft spot in my heart for D'Angelo, possibly because he's a lion. (Just look at B-Hop's girlfriend.) And I would have loved to see him in the Rookie Challenge, as well, but you're doing exactly what you should be doing-- turning a negative event into fuel for your character. D'Angelo may have sunk low in the draft and stuck on a team with few playoffs chances, but the fact is he's a character struggling to keep his head high. And that means a lot. We've all seen, the big lion can ball. He's had games with big numbers, and the only way he's going to be forgotten in this league is if he's forgotten by his creator. I'm glad to see that's not happening at all. :) Keep it up, big lion!
