It's Kobra Khan of He-man & the Masters of the Universe fame! I love the snake guys that look like snakes.... cuz some don't and/or didn't.
*****I'M REPOSTING this one because I changed the submission file on the previous one to fix the colors and for some reason, when I do this on FA, no matter how much I reduce the file size, the full-view comes out GIGANTIC to the point of annoying. It' s some FA fluke I've encountered a few times now. So anyhoo, if you like this, you may wanna fave this one cuz I may put the other original one in my scraps. *****

He really shines in the new series. Poor guy is basically trying to impress /belong to their ancestors who kinda look down on him the same way as Attila the Hun would look down upon me as a modern Hungarian. Loved when the other Snakemen tease him to swallow the captured Man-at-Arms... alive. Khan gulps and says how a great honor it is, but you can see he is disgusted and the others are snickering behind his back.
I actually have only seen part of the 200x Evilseed episode ( of which I prefer the original ). I kinda wanna see some of the 200x ones now. I think originally, Skeletor told Kobra Kahn to spy on the Snake Men for him... or to be his eyes & ears at least. I'm not sure where that was from though. I kinda think it was from the mini comicbooks the old figures came with.
To be frank? Much like with Transformers G1 or the old Thundercats, I can only look back at the old MOTU as something that I only liked because I was a kid at the time... The stories are frankly, quite silly, and continuity was all over the place. As you say, Kobra Khan was sent to spy on the (actually good-aligned!) snake-men, but in a later episode he appaeared again as just another foot soldier for him. Same goes for poor Clawful, one episode had him as a tactical genius while another as an idiot.
The 200X series had a much more cohesive mythology, and some pretty deep stories. Especially in season 2. I quite liked the underlying theme of how Khan is viewed by the other Snakemen as a degenerate descendant of their once pure race, while he is sometimes disgusted by his race's antics. Hey, best one was when he talks Evil-Lyn into siding with Hisss and betraying Skeletor, to which Hisss thanks him, and then tells Evil-Lyn she will be rewarded with the highest honors - being eaten by him. Hilarious to see Khan scamper away in terror, he was first angry and envious why he wasn't rewarded with such honors and now he is very-very thankful for it. (And nope, this is not a betrayal, Rattlor tells Evil-Lyn this IS their highest honor)
And later throughout season 2, he quickly works his way up to second in-command while Rattlor is captured. Naturally, once he escapes... he isn't happy about it, and the two continue to vie for Hisss' favour. I did like it though - despite hating each other's guts, they do work together and sometimes Rattlor even saved Khan from the Masters. They are not petty enough to let their rivalry endanger their mission. And funnily, Hisss is the only one who doesn't seem to care for Khan's heritage as just a descendant and never belittles him for it. Pity we never saw any females of their race.

Oh yeah. Same here. In fact, with a lot o that stuff, I prefer the silly logic that propelled the plots in those shows. When it gets too series, or too thought out, if looses something. I guess I like the dumb innocence. I think it was one of the mini-comic books that came with the toys that had Kobra Kahn spy on the Snake Men though.
I may give the 200X series another go sometime though. It seems like there's much more character development in that series. I was surprised to hear that it didn't get a 3rd season.

Yeah, toy sales killed it - Mattel never thought about how kids these days don't just want 20 versions of He-Man and Skeletor.
I enjoyed the dumb toons back then, but even then when stuff like Batman TAS or Gargoyles came along, I switched to that instantly. If a toon is silly, it should be, I dunno... self-aware silly. Like World of Quest - Skeletor would have been much more funny if he was doing the Evil Overlord Tropes on purpose.
