An artist and his pencil (G)

You all know that to a traditional artist, his pencil means everything to him. It is how he expresses himself. How he illustrates whats in his heart and soul, by extentsion the pencil IS his heart and soul.
Sometimes little things happen, the tip breaks. People have different reactions to this... In the end I always shrug my shoulders and sharpen the pencil, problem solved.
But occasionally the pencil will completely break in half. That's me, sitting here with a broken pencil, as I see it I have a choice. One end still has the eraser, the other does not, which should I sharpen?
Do I sharpen the one that still has an eraser, change nothing and move on?
Or do I sharpen both ends of the one without the eraser, grab a hand eraser and change my routine a bit?
I could always tape it together and try to pretend nothing happened, but what's the point in that. It's still broken, tap helps nothing...
