Uh, hey! I'm Stream! I'm a loser who uses she/her pronouns and Krita for digital art!

2 years agoI know I rarely post journals. And I don't really have any following, especially not on FurAffinity. But I want to do what I can to help the citizens of Palestine, and that means speaking on all platforms. I wholeheartedly recognize that Israel is committing a genocide, just as South Africa has, and I do not think any event justifies a genocide, regardless of how horrific October 7th was.
In all honesty, this crisis has opened my eyes. It showed me that a government that claims to protect the vulnerable, even after so much "learning from their mistakes", can turn around and align themselves with an army gloating about the genocide they're committing. It showed me that the crisis is actually a 75-year-long nightmare. It showed me that war crimes like targeting hospitals, ambulances and schools seem to be let loose if the targets are the wrong ethnicity.
I am white, a US citizen, and an atheist. I only have so much skin in the game, and I know I am not a source one can cite. But just about every time I've learned about genocides in school, there's always the belief, whether consciously or unconsciously, that no such atrocities will ever occur again. All while we were unaware that they were happening right under our noses, and now, now that one's gotten this level of public attention, willful ignorance or turning away, proves what side one really is on. But at the same time, I also know that genocides never succeed. As sad and horrific as it is that there are over 20,000 dead Palestinians, half of which are children, there are several more still alive and trying to survive. And if the government won't give a ceasefire, then I want to do what I can to at least send my message that they do not speak for who they are meant to speak for. Palestine is not dead. Antisemitism and Islamophobia are not tolerated here. The issue is not "Jewish vs Muslim", it's one state that is occupying and massacring another, and among the murdered are many Jewish Palestinians, treated as subhuman by Israel.
