My old man dog (a 10.5yr old Beauceron) just had to undergo emergency surgery for obstruction removal (he is never allowed to play with toys ever again!!111@!) to the tune of $7-9k (and counting). He was brought into the emergency vet on 7/10 at around 6am for xrays and bloodwork, at around 9:30am we decided to put him on fluids and see if the obstruction would move itself. At 9:30pm it was seen (after an ultrasound) that the obstruction was refusing to move (great), and we decided to set him up for surgery after many hours of back and forth and crying because he's already ten years old and he's got cancer (we knew this) and hip dysplasia and osteoarthritis and is it really in his best interest to keep him going? But yeah, we decided since none of that had bothered him prior to this obstruction, that surgery was the choice. We visited with him for a couple hours around 10pm, and then at 1:30am on the 11th he went into surgery. 3:30am I got a call that the surgery went well, no intestine needed to be removed, and the liver node that looked like it had a cancerous mass was just swollen... but the entire liver was still covered in small bumps and nodules. So they biopsied those, to send out for results. It'll probably come back as Mystery Cancer, just like his diagnosis was four years ago (it's presenting like mammary cancer... but in his lymph nodes :D)
