A Loss. (G)
A few days ago, on June 17th, there were talks of a death in my friend group, I did not find out until yesterday that the death that was spoken about was my best friend,
shifterfur . From what was revealed to me on F-List from a mutual friend of ours, he had pulmonary embolism. He passed away at the Hospital and now... Now he is gone and I am just so guilty of not talking to him more. So below is a short story I will write for him and I starring my Fox and his own fox. This will be a way to show my grief yet appreciation for him from myself and all of us who knew him.
"Hey Deeg. I guess this is it, huh? College is coming to an end, we're going to graduate and do so many things together, right?" The Irish fox looked to his roommate for all four of those college years, a smile on his face whenever he saw Degus.
"Oh yeah, definitely! I am so ready to start doing things with you, maybe I can finally move away from my folks and spend more time with you, I mean, you're my bro after all!" The other fox said to Finnegan as he slammed back a beer, grinning at him.
"Heh... you know it's... weird to see that this year was so much fun, thanks for getting me out there and to some of your frat parties, Deeg. It was a lot of fun, so thanks man, really." Finnegan gave a small smile to him as he cleaned up the trash that littered the dorm room.
"Dude you're so gay, you know that?" Degus said, wrapping an arm around his waist. "But you're the only one I will joke about that with, so it's alright."
Finnegan chuckled and hugged Degus for what he felt would be the last time, taking in his scent, his warmth, the feeling of his fur and even the strength he had. "Yeah... I know. And I can joke about you being a closeted gay and you cant do anything about that."
"Oh yeah?" Degus rose a brow and a grin crossed his maw as he put the other in a headlock and gave him a noogie. "You make it easy when you get all sappy with me, it won't be the last time we see each other, you know."
Finnegan sighed a bit. "I know, but it's just weird that this is the last time we'll share a room together until a few months down the line hopefully."
Degus chuckled a bit before slamming back the last of the beer in his can. "Yeah, but stop being sappy, we'll see each other again, Finny. Now... I'll be right back I gotta grab more beer from the store. Stay here, I'll be right back."
"Alright, alright. I'll probably have a present for you when you come back. Stay safe, please?" The fox said before pecking his cheek, followed by a chuckle from Degus. "You know I'll be safe, see you in a hour." Degus smiled at him and walked out of the dorm room as Degus seemed to... almost disappear as someone began to call for Finnegan.
"Finn... Finnegan... Mr. Moore, you there?" Soon fox was brought back to reality, the fox was... not in his dorm room, but at the tombstone that held his best friend... his bro... his... boyfriend. Finnegan just stared at the now covered coffin of Degus, where he was surrounded by everyone who cared for the fox, the professors who knew him, his parents, his friends, his frat bros... everyone. Finnegan looked to his left where he was being called to. "Oh... uh... yeah, I'm... here. Sorry... I was just... reliving those moments I had with Degus..." The fox started to wipe away the coming tears as Finnegan's boyfriends, Yelong and Alexander came over to comfort him.
So there they stood, looking at the grave of Degus Cairdeas in silent mourning before Finnegan knelt down and put down a bundle of flowers on his grave. "Goodbye Degus... I promise you I will live the life you want me to, even... even if you aren't with me anymore, I'll carry out our dreams, our goals... The world will never feel full without your golden heart... So... rest easy now... I will never forget you..."
Thank you all for reading this short story, I'm not the best at writing but this was just a way my pain and grief I feel for this loss. It stings as we wanted to get Halloween art together and something for Christmas... but now that is long passed and I can never get the art with him I wanted to... Though... I will try to live the life he wants me to, and not have me crying while writing all of this. So thank you all again for taking the time to read my poorly written story and to those worried; I'll be alright, it'll hurt for a while but I'll be okay. Check on those who were close to Degus and give his family you condolences and wishes for them to be well.
