NIMH: The Final Experiment Comic Preface (G)
Before you read this comic story, please read these somewhat long words, which is the explanation of the story that I created this comic. There is so much behind this comic stoey and other adaptations of NIMH's graphic fiction that I had to write a long article explaining it.
The story of this comic was not written by myself, even the character design is not my original design (although the fan story is not my creation per se, it belongs to the creators of the great film and all that it is, the author of the original novel) , all I did was take the story from the text and turn it into a combination of film and literature. All I did was take them from words and turn them into comics, and I had no good, original contribution anywhere else. I'm a mediocre artist at heart, and I'm a terrible artist. The only good thing about me is that I can make a lot of comics in a relatively simple style, and these comics often have a lot of text. I had hoped to reduce the amount of text in the comic, but because I tend to have fewer pages to tell more stories, it also has a lot of text. But no matter how many words are written, a comic story is still a comic story, a story that is both a combination of fiction and film, and yet completely different. It can be said that the comic story story is through the way readers read through the visual to accept the characters and characters and their environment in the story happened. Comics don't need a lot of people to work together to create a huge and great story by just one person. It's a one-person story.
But enough about the genre of this story. I'll tell you why I'm obsessed with all of this and even the NIMH fan fiction. The Secret of NIMH was not a childhood movie that I watched for The first time on or around November 15,2018, because it was recommended by nostalgic critics. It was only after watching the film for some time that I realized how much I was fascinated by it, by its gorgeous art, its twists and turns, and its protagonist, Mrs. Brisby, and the spiritual core of the story, abandon the decadent and corrupt old society and aspire to a new future for a new society of self-reliance. In late April 2019, I discovered The Thorn Valley fan fiction NIMH: The Unauthorized Sequel, written by Ken Singshow. I had only skimmed it, though. Then I found The fan graphic novel“NIMH: The Final Experiment” by Marcus Alexander Lindemann, inspired by this fan graphic novel. I could easily have picked it up from the large number of fan fiction on Thorn Valley's website at the time, because it was rarely used in large, if slightly crude, quantities, but the artwork is still exquisite, depicting the post-movie Thorn Valley and its characters' fan fiction. Ancillary content by Mal for NTFE is also interesting and, in a way, inspired my comics, let me understand that even an ordinary person without any art education can still draw a sequel to the movie they love. Although NTFE's illustrated stories are limited to the first two and a half chapters, they are still compelling enough. It can be said that people can directly see through their own eyes NIMH story of the various artistic wonders. Then on May 4,2019, i read the entire NTFE of Mal's new purebred text through translation software (I didn't actually read the first two and a half chapters because I thought I'd already read the illustrated stories) . But the fact remains that the newly rewritten text-only version of the first two-and-a-half chapters is still very different from the illustrated story. I was basically smoking and reading the rest of the story excitedly, and my ashtray was full of cigarette butts. Few stories give me such intense pleasure in reading. I am a very critical reader and viewer, and many well-known novels and movies I would not read or watch if they were not to my taste. But NTFE is so different, it has the characters I love the excellent shape and development, the fierce plot twists, rich details, and the impact of the story of my inner climax. Although after reading NTFE, I felt that although the story was exciting and interesting, it was something that was already in many science fiction novels. And I don't welcome the outcome of multiple species of intelligent animals living together in Bramble valley. But now, after reading NTFE 11 times, I can tell you that NTFE is a very different story, and few stories have such interesting character development and plot. I also appreciate and welcome the ending and future of the many different species of intelligent animals living together in Thorn Valley. So much has changed, so to speak. The Secret of NIMH is one of my favorite stories for The same reason NIMH: The Final Experiment wasn't very enthusiastic The first time it was written, until it echoed in my mind over and over again, i realized it was my favorite story.
I had already written my own NIMH fan story before this one, and even The Final story, NIMH: The Final War, was modeled on NTFE in character and environment and even in name. But after I finished them, my creative enthusiasm didn't go away, and with NTFE in my mind over and over again, I felt that it was the perfect story for a comic story format, and it should be shown to NIMH fans! By the time the last chapter of NTFE was published around the end of 2016 in Robin's now-defunct NIMH Fan Fiction Archive, NIMH fans' enthusiasm for fan fiction had waned, people no longer want to spend a lot of time reading sequels written by fans of their favorite stories. Fan fiction is often full of platitudes and evocative things, but there are also fan fiction writers who can create classic works. Mal's NTFE falls into this category. I don't want us to forget all about these great writers and stories, and I pity NTFE for not being able to continue the cinematic feast of artistic vision with the beautiful drawings MAL originally envisioned. Although I think my artistic style can only be so far as the scene and characters are drawn, there is nothing exquisite or artistic about it. But I think comic works have its own spirit and style, even if the amount of text, painting style again rough, it still has its unique narrative way. It's a way of telling a story, and it's the perfect way to tell Mal's great story to our fans today! In fact, I've always felt that NTFE seems to be The script for The animated sequel to The Secret of NIMH, and Mal's novel is as close to The film's narrative as possible, so it's The perfect NIMH fan fiction for film and television, but the animation companies that make all kinds of commercial productions will not find this story, and if they do, they will not adapt it into an animated series, they will only arrange for the writers they hire to write stories that suit their business interests, as the market demands. Therefore, the only way to read NTFE without looking is to rely on some dedicated comic story writers like myself. To be honest, as Mal wrote in the preface to his illustrated story, I'm not sure I can really finish the story, there are so many things in life that I can't focus on making comics. Although compared with my past work, my mind is much lighter, I don't have to work hard to write stories, don't have to work hard to translate English, don't have to work hard to design characters, though Mal couldn't draw more illustrations for his story, he did too much for his, i can see the faces of countless NTFE characters in his Thorn Valley Gallery (and many of the art he makes for his NIMH Muck Friends) . It's a long career, but I'll do my best to draw the best NIMH fan fiction out there for my fans.
Of course, this story is also a product of my personal style. I will keep most of Mal's original stories, but I will also change a lot of things based on my own ideas. I will even adapt a character. While I will make sure that the entire narrative follows Mal's original stories, I will change some of the details, as well as the different philosophies that I have with Mal, something completely different from what Mal's works represents.
But in any case, I hope you read Mal's works as well as this comic, to feel his vivid character and humorous writing style, and his another story, which tells the story many years after the end of NTFE, Mal's NTFE story end “Changing of the Guard”:

And don't forget to appreciate the art he has created for his characters or for his friends in NIMH Muck:

And“NIMH: The Unauthorized Sequel” by Ken Singshow, which inspired Mal to create NTFE:

Last but not least, Paul S. Gibbs' NIMH fan fiction:
http://www.thornvalley.com/author/p.....l-s-gibbs.html
In fact, while I think Mal's NTFE is the best NIMH fan fiction ever written, I don't think we can forget Paul S. , who left us so early. Gibbs. Although Mal does not mention Paul's works directly, it contains many of the NIMH Muck characters and settings of NTFE and Paul S. Gibbs' works. The best NIMH fan fiction of all time is the works of Paul, whose Mrs. Brisby is very moving. Even NIMH Muck is based on his two NIMH fan novels, The Rats of Thorn Valley and Second In Command. It could be argued that NTFE is also closely related to Paul's works. Paul also left three unfinished NIMH fan novels, which he never finished when he died suddenly in January 2002…
Interestingly, two weeks after I finished reading NTFE, when I first learned that Paul's work was being called the best NIMH fan fiction, I thought how could there possibly be a better NIMH fan fiction than NTFE! But when I finished reading Paul, I quickly decided it was the best NIMH fan fiction. In the years that followed, I reread Paul often, admiring his humor and his characters. In fact, I often think of Paul's work and Mal's as the best NIMH fan fiction of all time, with no distinction. But now, as I adapt NTFE into a comic story, the best NIMH fan fiction is NTFE. It might be said that I'm back to square one again.
But personal thoughts aside, I think that for NIMH fans, Paul's work and Mal's work should still be tied for the best NIMH fan fiction. There is no high or low.
I haven't been able to contact MAL online, so I can't get permission to turn his works into a comic story. I don't know whether or not he will allow his masterpiece to be adapted into a novel. I hope he will. After all, the two of us have something in common, both fans who have gone to great lengths to create sequels to their favorite stories. If I can get in touch with Mal, I think I'll talk to him a lot about NTFE, and if he agrees, I'll publish what we've talked about so we can understand the story behind NTFE's masterpiece.
This article is translated from Chinese into English by translation software, I really do not have the time and energy to organize them. Therefore, if the meaning of software translation is not clear, please forgive me.
Finally, thanks to MAL for imagining this story. And persisted in completing this story for more than ten years. I hereby pay my respects.
