The situation is that, while she doesn't have bad habits, her kidneys are pretty much dead. There are other problems besides; I have a few more details than her journal entry tells, and while she won't divulge her fears to me, I was a medic for about six years; I don't think I'm overstating things when I say that there is a very real danger of mortality within a few years.

In spite of it all, she still wants to work; she still wants to earn her recovery. That's tough as fuck, and I think that kind of elan deserves attention.
