Looking for advice regarding custom species creations (G)

Before I begin posting my art, I have a serious question. Regarding my fursona is a hybrid species that I put together myself, should i make a species description and watermark all of the art, before i post it? I don't know whether I want to make it an open or closed species... I'm thinking open would be more practical?
