Much, amazingly much, has taken place in the life of this werewolf-at-heart. The dreams haunt me more than ever, but ultimate love has healed the scars. The True Form stands ever more glorious in my soul.

What Makes an Alpha? (G)
A few have asked me what makes an Alpha what he is. Is he an Alpha because he is bigger or physically stronger? Because he is more ferocious than his pack? Perhaps he is loud, aggressive, insisting on having his way at all times? Does he have the most kills, the most blood on his hands? Is everyone scared of him?
It is true that these characteristics are often thought of when we speak of the classic "alpha male" or type A/choleric personality. But I have only one simple word to describe someone who is so demanding that everyone is stressed out when he is near. The word "jerk" comes to mind.
Real life wolf packs give a very clear allegory of true leadership. Here are a few things I've learned in my nearly 45 years of life, both from observing canine behavior and from sources both sociological and faith-based.
1) A leader has a clear vision of how a group must run. He backs this up with rules designed to point the way to his group.
2) A leader delegates duties to members who have earned the privilege of being entrusted with important work.
3) A leader asks for and takes sound advice. He does not spurn it. Instead he weighs this advice when making decisions.
4) A leader is assertive, becoming aggressive only when someone must be taught a firm lesson.
5) A leader willingly bears the responsibility for the consequences of his decisions and the actions of his group.
6) A leader protects his group, shielding them from unnecessary peril and comforting them when he can.
Too often we take our cues from the clearly broken society of mankind, where leaders are repeatedly defined by their ability to create fear and stress. But I submit to you that this is a twisted and false view.
Here is a question for any who wish to discuss: would you rather follow someone who goes around demanding that you submit or someone who you wish to follow because he inspires you?
No one mortal can lead the whole world. But I believe with all my heart that there are small groups that everyone can inspire. And if you can provide this, if it is truly within your power, do you not owe it to them to be that inspiration?
