Art during socials era + Birthday (G)
Many artists, after finding out a few 100k artists on X tracing AI slop, had this exact thinking:
"it's unfair that socials reward slop and not art made with love"
Of course it's unfair but... socials have never rewarded quality, they reward the traffic generated by your post, because traffic = money for the corp behind the social. For the same reason socials drive you to doomscroll, so you consume a lot of content in a short time, therefore even artists on there are less prone to stop by, take some time and comment (Unless something is extremely stimulating, like Reels, TikToks, etc...), so basically your 5 hours drawing's role on the platform is solved in 2 seconds and a like button.
The ways to solve it are many:
Artists dropping socials in favor of places like Cara (openly anti-AI) or other -older- Art Galleries would be the most extreme yet unlikely to happen.
What I'd worry about would be a slow but inexorable turn towards discord/telegram servers because that would be no more a big community, but just a lot of tiny isolated echo-chambers... but my honest hopes instead are all into artists starting considering socials as a showcase and pair them to an art gallery (FA? NG? Cara? Tumblr?...) to find again maybe less in numbers, but more meaningful interactions.
Oh also! It's my birthday!! :D
