Why do we have society?
I have considered this lately. Society is a creation of people in order to band together. But then I considered - why does society stick together? What makes people remain in a group, remain bound by the social mores of society?
Violence. Force.
Society is kept together by force. Why don't people who like your car take it? Because the police are there to issue force to halt it. To keep people who'd violate rules in jail or prison.
Why don't you cuss your idiot boss out? Because he has the force to fire you.
Why don't you do any number of things? Because someone, out there, has the force to hold you in check.
All the world is force and violence. The question is, What does one bow to, and what does one exercise?
Remember Starship Troopers? They discussed voting. When you vote, you use political force. And force is violence.
How far has society come from The Guy with the Biggest Rock and Today?
