Fleshing out the backstory and world of my characters (G)
So, I doubt anyone is actually going to read this, but anyway, I figured it was time to add a few details to the fictional world that my characters inhabit. With that said, let’s begin:
My art takes place in an alternate version of Earth where, instead of humans, the planet is populated by anthropomorphic animals. The only animals who are sentient and can talk are mammals - other animals like birds, fish, reptiles, and insects are the same as they are in real life. Humans do not exist.
The population of my Earth is about the same as the real one, circa 8 billion. It is culturally similar to our world, and the animals have all the same technology that we do. The world is also divided into all the same countries as it is in real life.
All mammals can mate with each other, but there are no hybrids. A child born to parents of two different species will be the same species as the mother or the father depending on its gender. For example, Emily was born to an elephant mother and a wolf father, and because she is female, she inherited her mother’s species. Traits like hair and eye color can still be passed down from a child’s parent of another species. About 50% of animals in my world “intermingle” while the rest prefer only to procreate with members of their own species (despite the fact that there are no physical differences between a child born to same-species parents or one of multi-species ancestry). Maxine, for example, comes from a long line of pureblood foxes.
The most common species in my world include cats, dogs, and wolves. More “exotic” animals like elephants and apes are much fewer in number. A form of racism does exist in my world as the more populous species tend to discriminate against the rarer ones.
Some parts of the world like Africa and Australia are mostly inhabited by animals native to these regions while in places like North America, animals originating from all over the world are common. All the same cities exist in my world, with the same names as in the real world. I don’t know where exactly like Emily and Maxine live, but let’s say they live in Canada as that’s where I am from.
I will also make a post eventually delving into the backstories and early lives of my two main characters. This is just the beginning!
One last detail: needless to say, elephants in this world are famed for their legendarily loud, strong, and frequent sneezes! Any animal with a sneeze fetish (like my girl Maxine) will inevitably choose to be with an elephant partner!
