So, it looks as though we’ll finally be getting a high quality release of the original version of Star Wars aka A New Hope (and maybe The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi soon after) as there will be a wide re release in theaters of THE true original theatrical version of the film in early 2027 to commemorate the 50th anniversary. Needless to say, i am surely stoked to see something i’d all but given up on seeing at an official level but it is in fact a massive event that i can’t wait to see on the big screen. To truly get some semblance of what the experiencing the film for the first time back in 1977 was really like, the way my parents and other relatives had as children. I won’t be surprised if this is a sign that eventual releases of true, high quality restored versions of all three OT films in their unaltered original forms (unlike those subpar letterboxed, laserdisc transferred GOUT bonus DVD’s from 2006/2008) are soon released on home video and online platforms not long after. After years of only the numerous revised “Special Edition” cuts being the only versions available, it looks as though Disney/Lucasfilm is finally relenting and delivering on what a lot of fans have been hoping and praying many long years for.
